This is not the liberal party of Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin.
it is the liberal party of Gerald Butts

I'm simply saying Trump and COVID did not create your structural problems. If Trump backs off of his trade war with Canada, not much is going to improve in Canada in the intermediate term. Sure, there might be a temporary bump on the TSE.Holy fuck do you even read? I also laid a shit ton of blame at Trudeau's feet. You are cherry picking out of my post. Bad form. I specifically saud carbon policy, immigration policy, trade policy, infrastructure policy. That is about as clear as it gets laying blame at the government 's feet.
And covid was a factor in debt and the economy. To say otherwise is about as dumb a statement as it gets. And to say Trump's fucking around is a non issue is also just plain stupid. You aren't stupid. So stop acting like it.
I VOTED FOR THE CONSERVATIVES. And said so at the time. He had a real chance. And failed to inspire the electorate to think he was good enough. Cripes he didn't even win his own riding he held fir 20 years. Thats a rebuke of his policies, and his person.
I never blame voters for election losses. It is always the leader and the party's fault. No politician DESERVES to win, they have to earn it, every time.
He failed. I get it. Des and Saul thought it was a sure thing, Trudeau at 19%. The nation itching to clobber him. And he walked. And Carney came in. It proves people didn't want to vote FOR PP, just against Trudeau. The polling at the time showed Carney had a ten point lead on preferred leader. That counts.
That's politics. Get over it. I did. Looked with an objective eye, and see the path.
I agree. That's why I like all the deals Carney is working on. It was the kick in the pants we needed.I'm simply saying Trump and COVID did not create your structural problems. It's clever rhetoric by several Canadians. It also feeds us into the Carney will save us from Trump mythos. You lean into that pretty heavily.
it is about maintaining power.A cynical person would say it's about maintaining power.
This not to mention Carney's conducting trade junkets to countries where you were told you had trade agreements in place for a couple years. How so? Do you mean forging trade relationships with countries that don't play fair by using subsidies, regulations and barriers to entry? Read most of Europe and Asia. If you think we have it so bad with the U.S. wait until you see what happens with a France, UK or Japan.
I haven't followed the story in depth.I agree. That's why I like all the deals Carney is working on. It was the kick in the pants we needed.
How do you feel about the Gordie Howe Bridge and Trump threatening to shut it? That looks like great infrastructure publicly owned, cheaper than the Ambassador Bridge and eventually mutually owed.
Do you agree with Trump?
i have him on ignore so I will assume you have accurately conveyed his viewMy discussion with Butler got to the essence of his thinking. His basic view was increasing productivity is a threat to quality of life
This not to mention Carney's conducting trade junkets to countries where you were told you had trade agreements in place for a couple years.
The ground work was already laid.AI Overview
During his administration (2006–2015), Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government signed or concluded free trade agreements (FTAs) with
39 to 44 countries, bringing the total number of trade partners to 44 by the end of his tenure.
When Harper took office in 2006, Canada had trade agreements with only five countries (NAFTA partners U.S. and Mexico, plus Israel, Chile, and Costa Rica).
You say that while backing trump? How are liberals too dumb to see this?![]()
It's about restricting competition. He wants to be the only game in town.I haven't followed the story in depth.
I would just say it's about trade negotiations and limiting access to the U.S. market.
The bridge will eventually be opened.
Don't forget Canada has been a member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) since 2018.The ground work was already laid.
Carney should be asking why we have not expanded trade with our new 39 trade partners ?
Instead he makes globe trotting political theater about finding new trade partners
The bridge will eventually open. It's about restricting competition. He wants to be the only game in town.
Lol. That was never on my worry list. The bridge will eventually open.
I would get back to worrying about the U.S. annexing Alberta.
In trumps case , why sign a new trade deal if you are going to implement a trade war?Don't forget Canada has been a member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) since 2018.
Wisely, Trump decided that the U.S. didn't need to be a part of another bureaucratic trade entity.
Biden passed on joining as well.
The bridge will eventually open.
I would get back to worrying about the U.S. annexing Alberta.
You're probably in a lower tax bracket then. If you make $150K a year in Ontario you're paying 34.4% tax/CPP/EI. And for each additional dollar you earn you're paying 43.4% of it in tax. That is burdensome.Fiscal policy absolutely. And his choice for finance as well. Taxes obviously carbon taxes are a mistake. But I don't find myself overly burdened. I would prefer to see better spending habits.
I think many might wonder why now and not the first term.In trumps case , why sign a new trade deal if you are going to implement a trade war?
Sleepy Joe was ........ sleeping when that option was discussed, who actually decided while Joe took his nap will remain a mystery
Maybe I am wrong, but Alberta isn't going anywhere.Yes, Ottawa needs to stop screwing Alberta and offer a better deal than the US will offer
Why assume the crushing liabilities of the irresponsibly spending of Ottawa while the manufacturing base in Ontario disappears and Quebec still demands its extortion Money?
And the same damn fools in Ottawa seek to strangle Alberta's economic engine via regulation
Do not walk away, run away
noIt's about restricting competition. He wants to be the only game in town.
Yet Canada maintains supply management insanity to enrich the politically connected Quebec Dairy cartelYes, Canada is currently experiencing a significant and deepening food insecurity crisis. As of 2024, approximately 10 million people—about one in four Canadians—live in food-insecure households, representing a 15% increase from the previous year.
I think the issues run deeper than that.no
Trumps thing is leverage , not restricting compition
he sees >100% tarfiifs on US Dairy and concludes this is not free trade, it is restricting competition for US Dairy
Canada is the ''food inflation capital of the G7"
Yet Canada maintains supply management insanity to enrich the politically connected Quebec Dairy cartel
we should have needed to be bullied into correcting policy which is hurting ten million Canadians for the benefit of very wealthy special interest groups
time to wake up
