Here's the thing: If Iran successfully attacks the US homeland, not a base in Bahrain or what not, I can totally see this giving Trump the green light to escalate this even further. Maybe it happens in such spectacular fashion that the majority of Americans push for a ground invasion as revenge. I'm not saying this will or could happen, but it wouldn't shock me. And, if you were really conspiratorial, I could see Trump allowing it to happen as a pre-text to stop the mid-term elections in November....Never mind the fact that the US held both mid-term and presidential elections during WWII...
