Well, I hope the Leafs won't win any more games this season and try to get a top 5 pick, that's the only silver lining for a disastrous season.

This was the culture Shanahan and Dubas established, they got rid of the only player that stood up for his teammates when they were getting slapped around at will.
And nothing has changed.
Fuck this organization.
I always thought Matt Martin was a good add to the team early on in the rebuild of the Leafs and trading him was always a head scratcher in my opinion.

This Leafs Golden age (2016-2025) is over, time to rebuild, but it's a long rebuild as they have a limited amount of prospects and picks.

Gudas the same guy who screamed in Woll's face when the series ended. Paul Maurice found it funny.
That's what 9 years of a soft core 4 builds into a team identity. Shanahan of all people couldn't see this.
Two trades, both made by Treliving, changed the Florida Panthers identity. Tkachuk and Bennett.
And Marchand...

Gudas should have got more than 5 games given his history, 8+ in my view.
5 is the "it was serious number", but that number happens enough times in a seaosn.
But once you get to 8+, its much rarer, it sends more of a message.

The Max is 5 games as per the new NHL collective bargaining agreement. Stupid, as Matthews could never play another NHL game again.

The maximum was five games because it was a phone hearing. If Player Safety had elected for an in-person hearing, they could have handed down a longer suspension.

Good call, I felt the same way. Played his game to max effectiveness and was a great team mate.
That first year in the playoffs when they lost to the Caps in the first round was the best round they've played since Matthews came.
Martin, Kadri, and Uncle Leo.

Did Gudas get 5 games suspension and no fine?? What a useless Player Safety Committee.
CP
While I share your view that the Dept. of Player Safety got this suspension wrong - his "fine" is that he forfeits a portion of his salary.
Fines given under non-suspensions are limited to $15,000 maximum. For his suspension Gudas "fine" will be a lot larger than $15,000.

As his last suspension was more than 18 months ago he is not classified a repeat offender under the CBA.
So his "fine" is calculated as the 5 day suspension divided by the number of days in the season times his annual salary.

It looks like his contract has a AAV of $4,000,000 so losing 5 days out of a 190 day season his "fine" could be as high as $105,263.
That money goes into the Player's Emergency Assistance Fund

Personally I feel he is a repeat offender and his suspension should have been in the 8 to 10 game range. (Especially now that the extent of Matthews injury is known)
As a repeat offender the math changes and his fine could have been as high as 10/82 times $4,000,000 or $487,800

The maximum is not 5 games for a suspension.

The maximum is 5 games if there is only a phone hearing.
If the suspension is over 5 games it has to include an in peson hearing

Interestingly though there has only been two 5 game suspensions all year (nothing higher) -- and they both happened in the past week.

Well, it is George Parros who hates the Leafs. I knew it would be something like a 5-game suspension and nothing like 10. Potentially ending a player's career should start at 10 games.

It's been both refreshing and sad to see the Leafs skewered for not standing up to Gudas after Matthews got his knee destroyed by him. I saw a comparison video vs what happened in 1993 when McSorley tried to destroy Gilmour in the Western Conference Final - Wendel Clark tried to kill the man and McSorley was an insane enforcer with no soul.

Carlo is a huge man but clearly a complete pussy, Nylander immediately did what he does best and start whining for a penalty that was clearly coming, and Rielly admitted post-game he should have done something. Sadly, Cowan hung around this soft team all year and it clearly infected him to not violently react to his captain getting hurt either.

Fuck their no trade clauses and get rid of absolutely everyone - if they say no then make them completely miserable until they change their minds. But before that happens clean house of your GM and coach, they're dead men walking too. It's going to be an awful rebuild.

Cowan got crushed into the boards right before the knee on Matthews, that should have been enough to release the hounds on Gouda.
It was a hit that no one should let slide on one of their rookies, much less a knee on knee on their star player.
It's been a few years I've given up on the Leafs, but I don't think I've ever been this disgusted in the team and org.

The Leafs have another shot at Gudas on March 30, unless Gudas is chicken shit and isn't in the lineup.

Give me players that don't mind the microscope/extra media and play hockey like their hair's on fire. When Toronto finally gets that team, those players will absolutely own this city. Until then, its a bunch of wuss players that cannot handle the spotlight while they not only lose games, but lose games in a manner that suggests the team needs a complete heart transplant.

Or more likely be damaged goods. We already know how injuries affect his play. He's never had it to his knee before. He was never fast to begin with and he appeared to be slower than before already.

I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll never see a Cup here, I'm probably a bit older than you.
I don't even care, I just want to watch a team with some balls and character.

I'm in my early 50s and feel the same as you, that a cup parade in this city is the impossible dream. I blame Harold Ballard.
