Well, I hope the Leafs won't win any more games this season and try to get a top 5 pick, that's the only silver lining for a disastrous season.
I always thought Matt Martin was a good add to the team early on in the rebuild of the Leafs and trading him was always a head scratcher in my opinion. This was the culture Shanahan and Dubas established, they got rid of the only player that stood up for his teammates when they were getting slapped around at will.
And nothing has changed.
Fuck this organization.
You probably gave all your gifts to Nylander in your wet dreams, don't mix up reality with that.Wait, aren't you my buddy. My pal. My bestie. Did you get my gift in you
And Marchand...Gudas the same guy who screamed in Woll's face when the series ended. Paul Maurice found it funny.
That's what 9 years of a soft core 4 builds into a team identity. Shanahan of all people couldn't see this.
Two trades, both made by Treliving, changed the Florida Panthers identity. Tkachuk and Bennett.
Gudas should have got more than 5 games given his history, 8+ in my view.
5 is the "it was serious number", but that number happens enough times in a seaosn.
But once you get to 8+, its much rarer, it sends more of a message.
The maximum was five games because it was a phone hearing. If Player Safety had elected for an in-person hearing, they could have handed down a longer suspension. The Max is 5 games as per the new NHL collective bargaining agreement. Stupid, as Matthews could never play another NHL game again.
Good call, I felt the same way. Played his game to max effectiveness and was a great team mate.I always thought Matt Martin was a good add to the team early on in the rebuild of the Leafs and trading him was always a head scratcher in my opinion.
While I share your view that the Dept. of Player Safety got this suspension wrong - his "fine" is that he forfeits a portion of his salary.Did Gudas get 5 games suspension and no fine?? What a useless Player Safety Committee.

The maximum is 5 games if there is only a phone hearing.
If the suspension is over 5 games it has to include an in peson hearing
Interestingly though there has only been two 5 game suspensions all year (nothing higher) -- and they both happened in the past week.
Cowan got crushed into the boards right before the knee on Matthews, that should have been enough to release the hounds on Gouda. It's been both refreshing and sad to see the Leafs skewered for not standing up to Gudas after Matthews got his knee destroyed by him. I saw a comparison video vs what happened in 1993 when McSorley tried to destroy Gilmour in the Western Conference Final - Wendel Clark tried to kill the man and McSorley was an insane enforcer with no soul.
Carlo is a huge man but clearly a complete pussy, Nylander immediately did what he does best and start whining for a penalty that was clearly coming, and Rielly admitted post-game he should have done something. Sadly, Cowan hung around this soft team all year and it clearly infected him to not violently react to his captain getting hurt either.
Fuck their no trade clauses and get rid of absolutely everyone - if they say no then make them completely miserable until they change their minds. But before that happens clean house of your GM and coach, they're dead men walking too. It's going to be an awful rebuild.

Give me players that don't mind the microscope/extra media and play hockey like their hair's on fire. When Toronto finally gets that team, those players will absolutely own this city. Until then, its a bunch of wuss players that cannot handle the spotlight while they not only lose games, but lose games in a manner that suggests the team needs a complete heart transplant.Cowan got crushed into the boards right before the knee on Matthews, that should have been enough to release the hounds on Gouda.
It was a hit that no one should let slide on one of their rookies, much less a knee on knee on their star player.
It's been a few years I've given up on the Leafs, but I don't think I've ever been this disgusted in the team and org.
Or more likely be damaged goods. We already know how injuries affect his play. He's never had it to his knee before. He was never fast to begin with and he appeared to be slower than before already. The Max is 5 games as per the new NHL collective bargaining agreement. A MCL tear is much less brutal than a torn ACL. He should be fine by the summer.Or more likely be damaged goods. We already know how injuries affect his play. He's never had it to his knee before. He was never fast to begin with and he appeared to be slower than before already.
I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll never see a Cup here, I'm probably a bit older than you.Give me players that don't mind the microscope/extra media and play hockey like their hair's on fire. I'm in my early 50s and feel the same as you, that a cup parade in this city is the impossible dream. I blame Harold Ballard.I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll never see a Cup here, I'm probably a bit older than you.
I don't even care, I just want to watch a team with some balls and character.
