For the first time in history, Canada advances from pool play into the quarter-finals. Canada defeated Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the always-tough Cuba, but lost to Panama, finishing 1st in their pool with a 3-1 record.

I've watched quite a bit of this year's WBC. A bit more sloppy play than you would see in MLB games between top teams but lots of fun.

The Canadian team played well but the Cuban team was horrible. Not even the calibre
of the teams you see at Christie Pits.

You're are right as far as that game is concerned.

I was commenting about the 6+ games I watched, including Canada's 4 games to date. Canada's fielding was not very good in the Panama game.

I was hoping for the Dominicans and when they struck early off Skenes I was thinking they were going to pull it off. Especially the way Severino started off, he was dealing. Its too bad that they had used Sanchez the game before, he was by far their best pitcher. Severino has been meh the past couple of seasons I would have contemplated starting Brayan Bello, who looked sharp his last outing, instead.

It would have been better to structure the staff to go with Sanchez in the semi's instead of the quarters.. USA is a different level than Korea, and they knew based on how the tournament was set bracketed that they would matchup with the USA in the semi's.

But I understand in some cases it was the "MLB" teams that set the rules. We want pitcher "x" to pitch this game and then pitch again "x" days later, and don't veer off it, so that you can't change mid route to mess with the pitcher's spring ramp up routine. But seems like they could have switched Sanchez prelim game to me to make it work.
