A security guard at a Dollarama in Winnipeg is facing several charges after police say he used brass knuckles to assault an alleged shoplifter and threatened to kill him.

That area is an absolute shithole, you couldn’t pay me enough to work there. I feel for the security guard he’s probably fed up with being spit on daily by the crack heads that rob that place blind.

After a quick Google Maps check of the address, I second this.

I was born in Winnipeg and lived there my first 29 years. I've not been back in a long time, but the downtown core was always an area you needed to keep your wits about you when out and about, even in broad daylight 40 years ago.

40 years ago it was rough around the edges but there were still a large amount of normal people on the street. Now it‘s a waste land of junkies, homeless, mentally ill and aggressive panhandlers. The downfall in just the last 5 or 6 years has been absolutely staggering. Stabbings are literally a daily occurrence and business are moving out faster than ever.

Winnipeg is basically becoming a "doughnut city" -- the centre clears out of normal people at 5pm and people live their lives in suburbs. It's sad, really, because downtown areas should be where the action is.

I didn't see any brass knuckles, just a really mad Nigerian that crossed the line detaining a suspect. After this video there's a strong chance he's now unemployed.

I have no idea what happened before what I'm seeing here in this video.

The guard tells the woman that the perp hit him first...So all looks okay to me if that is true.

And there is no brass knuckles here...Makes for a good headline though.

Pretty sure the accent was Nigerian and Somalis all have that same sort of facial features but I'm no expert on Africans.

Yeah the brass knuckle are visible in the bottom left pic but that just been added to the meme..Thats not from the scene.

I slowed it down almost frame by frame and there are no brass knuckles...He's got some big meat hooks on him though.
