You know, the major issue we face is that criticism of Israel, even when warranted, is viewed by some as being antisemitic. Israel is a mess for a number of reasons, mostly thanks to the British imposing it on that area without any thought to the millions of Palestinians who've lived there for an millennium or longer. Despite this, I do think Israel is real and impossible to remove. But, their treatment of the Palestinians has been horrible over the past 30 years. But, few people seem to care. I understand the anger after October 7th, but what they've done in Gaza is fucking crazy. On top of that, the decision to attack Iran and force the US into coming along is horrible. It just show that Netanyahu and Trump are two idiots cut from the same cloth. They don't have an exit strategy here. I also don't think that Newsome is far off. Israel reminded me of South Africa in several ways. I actually remember in grad school seminar someone saying this and all the Jews in the class immediately got their back up and started yelling and debating this person.

And, that seems to be the pattern. If you say anything bad about Israel, no matter how true it might be, they will slam you and attack you. You cannot have a dialog about it. You cannot threaten to sanction them or boycott them, or you will be labeled antisemitic. And that is truly fucked up.

California Governor Gavin Newsom compared Israel to an “apartheid state” and said America should reconsider its support. Good indicator that israel’s reputation is never recovering. Ambitious politicians see the writing on the wall, which is that israel is unpopular.

Newsom took JPAC money and passed a bill making it illegal to criticize Israel.
But he also knows that supporting Israel is now political suicide

The truth is that Israel is a fascist apartheid state that has committed genocide in Gaza, enabled, armed and funded by the United States whose politicians are all on Israel's payroll.
The tactic of calling all criticism of Israel antisemitic, is starting to fail with bipartisan pushback because people are increasingly sick and tired of the gaslighting.
I am truly surprised that Gavin Newsom of all people called Israel an apartheid state.
The guy is supposed to be on payroll too! Guess he is sick of it too.

And my Jewish daughter, who is not now, and has not been, pro-Israel at all, was enrolled in a political science class in Grade 11 at Georges Vanier Secondary School 14 years ago.

She, being the only Jew in a class that was majority Muslim, was being constantly harassed and ganged up on by the Muslim students in the class just for being Jewish, and had to ask the administration for permission to drop out of that class, after tolerating the abuse for several months.

Her request was granted.

Now imagine if your daughter was forced to go through checkpoints everyday when she went to school or had to walk along a separate street just because she was Jewish.
That is the hell Israel subjects the Palestinians to. On a good day.

Compare that to teachers and students being expelled entirely for standing against genocide.
Or compare that to Gaza, where every school has been blown up and teachers targeted for asassination.

Like this poem by Refaar Alareer, a teacher and poet that Israel killed using their 'where's daddy' AI. Where they tracked his phone and waited until he was home so he could be killed by drone with his entire family.

“IF I MUST DIE”
BY REFAAT ALAREER

If I must die,

you must live

to tell my story

to sell my things

to buy a piece of cloth

and some strings,

(make it white with a long tail)

so that a child, somewhere in Gaza

while looking heaven in the eye

awaiting his dad who left in a blaze—

and bid no one farewell

not even to his flesh

not even to himself—

sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above

and thinks for a moment an angel is there

bringing back love

If I must die

let it bring hope

let it be a tale

Canada neither funds Israel the way the U.S. does nor has Canada ever fought a war on Israel’s behalf.
So treating it as a decisive voting issue in Canada makes little sense.

You think that's bad, imagine how life must be for the 1 million children living under apartheid rule for their entire life only to spend the last 3 years living through genocide.
Oh right, they are Palestinian so you don't care about them being starved, tortured, maimed or killed.

Gaza is about to be intentionally starved, again, under Israeli genocidal rule.

I stopped supporting Trudeau after he said he was a zionist.
I am stopping supporting Carney after he supports Trump's war and will now back Avi Lewis.

You found out trump is a pedo, corrupt, supremacist backing genocide and war under order from Netanyahu and still back him.
See the difference?

Look, that is unacceptable, and the teachers failed to control the class.

I know this is going to be seen as one of those "i have friends who are..." but I do have some close Jewish friends. They are split on this. Some are sick of what Israel has become, while others support it regardless of what the state does. All were disgusted and horrified about the October 7th attacks, but some were equally disgusted about the bombing campaign in Gaza.

The issue comes down to where does a jewish person end and the State of Israel begins? It is difficult because there are some jews (like my friends) who are so pro-Israel that they lose their shit if you say anything bad about the state, regardless of how valid it is. As for you daughter's classmates, their hatred of Israel was being cast on one person who shares the faith of the jewish state. Is it unfair? 100%. But, I can understand their anger (though not their treatment of someone who doesn't support Israel). I mean, like most of the Arab countries in the Middle East, their views on Israel as anything but favourably. And, on a level you cannot blame them. They see Israeli fighter jets bombing Lebanon and Iran and treating the Palestinians horribly. I mean, I can understand why people in Gaza would support Hamas against Israel. They clearly see themselves as an oppressed people.

She'd be miserable in the prison like conditions imposed by Israel.
Also, she happens to be openly gay. Would she merely be put in prison in Gaza, or would she be thrown off a roof?

In Israel her sexual orientation is fully legal, and would be accepted by the general population, if not the ultra-orthodox Jews.

And she wouldn't be killed for it.
