Donald Trump and the neocons are wild with joy tonight over the murder of the Ayatollah Khamenei… This is just one more example of Western ignorance about the implications of the Ayatollah’s martyrdom. Let’s start with the fact that the Ayatollah is the one who issued the fatwa 36 years ago declaring that it would be a sin for Iran to build or use a nuclear bomb. So the West thinks that killing the one guy who has been the main obstacle preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon is a good idea?

The Shi’a communities across the region took to the streets to protest and mourn the Ayatollah’s passing. In neighboring Baghdad a large crowd of Shi’a are now trying to breach the Green Zone. Iraqi security forces are trying to hold them back. This assassination by the United States and Israel was intended to weaken the Islamic Republic and set the stage for regime change. I think it will have the opposite effect, i.e., strengthen support for the government and bolster the status of hardliners who have zero inclination to compromise with the West.

It is barely 24 hours since Israel and the US launched the decapitation strikes and Iran — within 90 minutes of the first attack — began launching counterstrikes targeting all US military installations and bases in the region. Last June, following the decapitation strikes, it took Iran almost 12 hours to pull itself together and launch missiles towards Israel. Today Iran has responded by hitting both Israel and key targets in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain,Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. An Iranian general appeared on Iranian TV and vowed to hit Israel and the US forces in the region with a new type of weapon.

Trump and the neocons continue to believe that the support for the Islamic Republic is shallow and fragile. But judging from the reaction of the Iranians to the murder of the Ayatollah, I think Iran is now fully committed to a war of attrition. The advantages the US currently enjoys are likely to dissipate if this war continues for several weeks. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic will inflict severe economic harm to the global economy if the IRGC is able to keep it closed.

The odds are high that the Iranian attacks on US military installations and Israel will escalate in coming days. The US airbase in Erbil is under attack; the CIA station in Dubai has been hit with a missile as well as a Kuwaiti air base that is hosting US aircraft. Let’s see what the next 24 hours brings.

Judge Napolitano and I held an emergency chat today to discuss the aftermath of the decapitation strike:

Question posed to AI, Sunday, March 1, 2:50 AM. "Is Benjamin Netanyahu still in Israel?"

Answer: "As of March 1, 2026, Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu is in
Israel
.
He recently returned to the country following a diplomatic visit to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. Upon his return, he has been active within Israel, addressing the nation and the Knesset (parliament) regarding recent military operations and regional tensions:

  • Recent Military Updates: On February 28, 2026, Netanyahu delivered a televised address from Israel concerning joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. He stated there were "many signs" suggesting the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following these strikes.
  • Diplomatic Activity: He recently hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Israel for a historic visit."

Was the Shia world inflamed when hundreds of thousands of Iranians were systematically slaughtered during periods of protests against the murderous regime?
One thing for sure: Whoever thinks killing Khamenei and some of the leadership will lead to regime change is delusional.
The Revolutionary Guard and other fanatical elements are too entrenched and benefiting too much for the religious kleptocracy to be removed

This is going to be a long brutal war, Alexander the Great has opened a Pandora's Box.

Iran will continue to destroy petroleum infrastructure on the Arabian Peninsula while Netanyahu sips ouzo. Invading Iran will be a logistical nightmare, Alexander will need the help of his kissing cousin Putin to have even the slightest chance of success. 59,000 American lives were lost during the Vietnam War, invading Iran will far surpass that. Maybe Trump can have tacos for supper tonight.

Netanyahu fled the country to hide in Germany after he started another war.
His son is partying in Florida, where he lives.

The big winner will be China.
EV sales will boom after oil prices jump massively in the next week or two.

Iranians have a right to yell 'death to america' after trump started a war with them right after they agreed to everything he asked.
Add them to Afghanis, Iraqis, Syrians, Lebanese, Libyans and Palestinians who all have a right to hate the country that attacked them.

So stupid and evil

Question posed to AI: "Is Benjamin Netanyahu in Germany?"

Answer:

"As of March 1, 2026, there is no verified evidence that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in
Germany
.

  • Current Location: Official reports and social media updates from March 1 indicate Netanyahu remains active in Israel. He recently held a security consultation at an IDF Intelligence base and issued a video statement regarding ongoing military operations.
  • Unverified Claims: On February 28, 2026, unsubstantiated claims circulated online suggesting Netanyahu's official plane, the "Wing of Zion," had landed in Berlin. While some reports noted the aircraft itself may have been moved to Germany for safety following strikes on Iran, there is no confirmation that the Prime Minister was on board.
  • Diplomatic Context: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently stated that a visit by Netanyahu is "currently not under discussion".
  • Legal Barriers: Netanyahu faces an active International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Germany, as a signatory to the Rome Statute, is legally obligated to execute such warrants, making a visit to the country highly complicated.

  • The last confirmed time Netanyahu was in Berlin for official political talks was in March 2023."

The US and UK created a coup in the 50's to oust Democratically elected Iranian Prime Mister so they could regain control of the oil that was previously controlled by British Petrolem (BP) but nationalized by the then Prime minister

Prime Minister Mossaddegh was in power for two years when he decided to nationalize the oil industry in 1953. When the CIA toppled him and restored the Shah, he wasn't executed. Kermit Roosevelt felt he did BP and Texaco a favour.

According to Reuters, Bibi is at his home in Ceasarea. I'm surprised that old Roman town has made it to the present day. If Trump was a student of history he'd know war against Persia is futile.

Khamenei’s killing
March 2, 2026

THERE is no question about it: with the brutal assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family in Tehran on Saturday, the US and Israel have chosen the path followed by states gone rogue. They have established a dangerous precedent by killing the head of a sovereign country in cold blood. No consideration of international conventions stopped them and the broader fallout of this egregious crime is a new normal that many other states with similarly reprehensible tendencies may want to adopt.

The late Khamenei had led Iran for decades since the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989. Under him, post-Revolution Iran dealt with the aftermath of a devastating war with Iraq; it witnessed intensifying economic sanctions and unrest; and saw no let-up in tensions with the US and Israel. The ayatollah’s killing mirrors earlier ‘decapitation strikes’ carried out by Israel against Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. An interim governing council is already in place, indicating that Iran was ready for the worst.

The late Khamenei was the spiritual guide of millions of Muslims worldwide. The protests following his death, including in Pakistan, were only to be expected. Pakistan has deep cultural and religious links with Iran; millions here followed the religious edicts of the ayatollah who was a Shia marja. Sunday’s violence at the US consulate in Karachi was particularly of concern — at least 10 protesters were killed, with two more deaths in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, hostilities have continued, with targets hit in Iran, while several Gulf countries have reported retaliatory missile and drone strikes. If the US-Israeli aggression continues, it is difficult to see the situation winding down anytime soon.

While Iran’s anger is understandable, there is a need for it to show restraint and refrain from attacking targets in neighbouring countries. The Iranians say they are hitting US interests, but there is always collateral damage in conflict and Iran will find itself further isolated in the region — thus playing right into the hands of the US-Israel combine. There is wisdom, instead, in using diplomatic and political tools and protesting at international forums to put pressure on the guilty.

The Global South, including other Muslim states, should stand with Iran, and condemn both this gross violation of its sovereignty and the perpetrators in unambiguous terms. They should remember that they may be next as Israel and the Trump administration will target anyone who dares to disagree with them. Attempts at regime change have always backfired — it is up to the people of a country to decide the kind of government they want. All Washington and Tel Aviv have achieved is more chaos spreading across the Middle East. The two must be held to account for their bloodstained adventurism.
