No I wasn't at that game....I was working as night news/makeup editor at a daily in Union City, NJ, just outside the Lincoln Tunnel. Refresh me about the incident. All I recall is that Park didn't put in much of an effort in that game, a 6-4 Wings victory. He was dealt to the Bruins a week or so later along with my favorite Ranger of all-time, the smooth Jean Beliveau clone Jean Ratelle for Espo and Carol Vadnais.
The story I heard was there was a loose puck in the Detroit end and Giacomin left his crease to retrieve it. Before he could get to the puck Park shouted out "I got it Eddie". Out of habit Giacomin turned back and returned to his crease forgetting he and Park were no longer on the same team. It may have been someone other than Park as I'm not sure what Park would be doing playing up that high.

As much as liked Ratelle, he was as buttoned-up as an alter boy. Whereas Espo, he was all about fun, fun, fun. When he was coach I remember boarding the team plane for the flight back to NYC after Saturday night away games after seeing the plane stuffed with pizza boxes and beer. Those late 80s teams may not have the best in NYR's checkered history but they certainly were the funnest.

Did you ever deal with Stan Fischler? If so, what was he like in person?

I saw Stan around the rinks a lot and would talk to him every now and then. The Maven knew/knows his stuff and he enriches hockey's present with a well-earned perspective. But I didn't really interact with him enough to offer a view of him as a person.
