Here's the thing: I don't care if Jivani is considered ugly. I really don't. He could be the Elephant man. The thing here is that his trip to Washington was sort of unprecedented. I cannot remember another time when an opposition member went to talk to the US VP without any word from his party's leader. That feels bad enough. But, his comments in that Breitbart article basically undercut Canada. Us being upset about Trump's idiotic and childish behaviour as a hissy fit is ridiculous. And, as
@Shaquille Oatmeal rightfully pointed out, it certainly reeks of a quisling attitude. Optically, this is what will disqualify him as rising anywhere higher in the political spectrum, espeically at this time when Mango Mussolini is threatening Canada's economic health on multiple levels.
Jivani is foolish for this. His trip makes it seem like Canada is the issue in these negotiations. Like we're the ones who are walking out or refusing to hear the US pitch. I highly doubt that. We all know Trump is mercurial. He blusters and makes noise, cancels talks over any perceived digression, and basically thinks that he can bully us into a bad deal. All Jivani is doing is making the Trump administration think that Canada will back down and take whatever the US wants to give us.
Now, if the government asked for his help, that would be a completely different thing. And, it isn't shocking that Brian Lilley is trying hard to spin this into Jivani being a hero. And failing. Maple MAGA will love Jivani for doing this, but they are a small group of idiots. I think this will hurt his political future. I also think that he is a very intelligent man. You don't get into Yale by being an idiot (unless you are a legacy/wealthy, neither of which describes Jivani). But, I think he might have been caught up in the moment and been treated like a superstar by the right and Breitbart...So, he flaps his gums about shit and downplays how angry Canada is. Which is a mistake.
