Feb 15 1970.

The world of music changed forever, Black Sabbath's First Album was released. After watching Rosemary's Baby two aimless young chaps decided that people like to be scared. So they brought in Terence Butler and Bill Ward to complete the band.

The location still stands.

Never listened to it. Fucking drag music. Once Ozzy went solo, he was good.

Pretty sure it was February 13th. The record company in England (Vertigo) wanted to tie the album’s release into the date as it’s superstitious. Also, they added the church bells, rain and thunder as an intro without the band’s knowledge. Same with the gatefold sleeve… it had an upside down cross with a rather somber poem. The band themselves weren’t really into the occult; it was just a marketing gimmick! The album was released in the States in June of that year.

I can recall on 1010 CFRB, just before the noon news.
Taylor Parnaby up to about year 2009 would do an on this day feature called 'tattered little date book'.

It was a loss when he retired, and even sadder when he passed away earlier this year.

Wierd family connection to me
His mom was the United Church organist where he grew up in Orillia.
So every Thursday she would have choir practice, like every other church choir in Canada at the time.
I seem to recall his dad was a newspaper man and often worked late.

My mom, who was a few years older, would babysit "Hap', as he was known, on Thursday nights.
When he was too little to be by himself while his mom was out.

My mom died peacefully eariler this year.

Two portentous events happened on Feb 15.

Alexei Navalny died in a Siberian Penal Colony, suspected poison in 2024.

The mafia State of Fulgencio Batista was toppled by Fidel Castro who became Premier in 1959. He ruled Cuba until 2008.

How great in those times to come up with that type of music. Brilliant
