Why would a simple rain-slicked road slide cause an electric vehicle to erupt into flames in less than 30 seconds? The car didn’t collide violently or sustain major visible damage, yet witnesses watched as smoke quickly turned to fire. Investigators are now questioning whether exposure to water or a short circuit in the battery pack could have triggered a catastrophic thermal runaway. The incident raises pressing concerns about the resilience of EV batteries in everyday conditions. As electric cars become more common, such cases spotlight the urgent need for stronger safety safeguards and transparency from manufacturers.

Plenty of videos lithium mining on YT

Also I am no expert but do know some electronics. If door handle retracts I assume it uses a stepping rotor/motor or solenoid. These devices are to strong for the fingers, arms or anything a man can't hold with his fingers.

Solenoid valves typically operate within a pressure range of 0 to 150 PSI for standard water/air applications, with specialized high-pressure models capable of handling up to 5,000 PSI. Common configurations include 24 VAC or 12V DC, often requiring a minimum pressure differential of 1.4 to 7.2 PSI to function properly.

Hence why Ontario Fire Marshall declared not to save people from burning EV.
I carry a flashlight ( multitool ) in my car with seat belt breaker and window.

I had a car catch fire at a stop light. Ignition switch issue. Apparently there was a recall but since I bought it used, I was not informed.

Sometimes things just go wrong.
You should be able to go to your vehicle manfacturer's website and register yourself as the vehicle's current owner. Failing that, visit a local retailer and get them to do it. Even if you don't normally deal with a local retailer for your vehicle maintenance, it's worth the one visit to ensure that you are the contact for your pre-owned vehicle.

That could happen in any EV and hybrid car today because they are all lithium, even Teslas. The new sodium batteries are safer.

I always got a mail from my previous cars I bought used. ( Even 14 years old) I thought the MFG would get the list ( VIN ) from the MOT.
Something isn't right and it is not Jenesis.

I know this now. This fire happened over 2 decades ago now. I had no idea back then. But yeah - now I register every car with the manufacturer since all I buy is used cars.

Notice how he couldn't open the back door because the door handle is retracted into the car?
I'm wondering if this is the incident that made the government in China make it mandatory that from now on all handles must be the traditional mechanical release, no more retracting.
That is exactly why.
