I honestly don't think the Israelis, and liberal Jews in the diaspora (which most are), would have supported the continued attacks on Gaza and it's general population, once they considered any sort of "eye for an eye" retaliation for Oct. 7 was accomplished.
They would have forced Netanyahu to stop, regardless of his obvious desire to keep going.
Most likely Netanyahu also believes that Hamas will not disarm and give up power, so he knows he will be able to continue as long as the Israeli attacks are limited in scope to whatever Hamas is also doing in "the ceasefire".
The refusal of Hamas to release the hostages struck deep into Jewish hearts, especially the Israelis, as has been demonstrated historically time and time again.
As I have said before, what other nation do you know of that has been repeatedly willing to release 1,000's of detainees and criminals (including in Israel's case convicted Gazan terrorists) for one hostage of their own?
