Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with herpes and the doctor prescribed valacyclovir for 90 days.

I wanted to ask—is a 3-month course common, or has anyone else been prescribed it for this long initially?

Would appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks.

You should follow up and ask your doctor as they would know the reason for that best.

However, WHO guidelines suggest 10 days for initial episode. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK396233/

Best of luck. If you're considering taking the medicine for shorter than your doctor prescribed you should definitely call your doctor to discuss that.

It's the right drug and used for h 1 and 2. If ya got herpes 2 you need to disclose that before you have sex. Recently a football player (EM and a few years ago pop star Usher) were successfully sued for passing it on to their sex partners.

People get prescribed the same medicine for oral cold sores if they get it really bad.
I know someone from young taking that treatment. Most of us 90% have the virus but some get symptoms while others have it dormant
