Leafs are 7 points behind Boston. They lost both games to them in regulation this season.
The proverbial 4 point game times 2. There's your 8 point swing right there.
What's the Leafs record vs Atlantic teams? To be on top of the Atlantic, you have to beat all the Atlantic teams.

Leafs:
lost both games to Boston in regulation. This one stings the most considering their predicament.
lost all 4 games to Detroit but 2 in overtime. This one stings also.
won 1 overtime game against Buffalo and lost the other 2 in regulation. This one stings tertiary.
won 1 in regulation lost 1 in regulation and lost 1 in overtime against Montreal. A scab but still stings.
won the 1 game in regulation against Ottawa
won the 1 game in regulation against TB
Won both games in regulation against Florida

They have a losing record against the bubble teams Det, Mon, Buf, Boston.
They have a winning record against the bottom 2 teams and the top team.
Hence why they are where they're at in the Atlantic standings.

If the Leafs can win tonight in Edmonton and Boston loses in Florida tomorrow. They could be 5 points back before the break.

This is a better team with Nylander back and even better without Rielly. It may still fall short for making the playoffs but they can now say goodbye to their first round pick.
Lol they won against the 2 of the worse teams on NHL. They will get back to losing games lol

McMann is one player that fits either you’re retooling or rebuilding but it has been speculated that the Oilers are very interested in acquiring him either by trading for him now or signing him as a free agent. The Leafs can’t afford to let him walk without getting some assets back. If he doesn’t resign before the trade deadline then you have to trade him. With Stolarz starting tonight, it got me thinking what would a trade of both McMann and Stolarz fetch in return? Stolarz’ S value may be low now, but there’s also the worry that he may not fully recover from his concussion.

The power play, Stolarz, and the defense including Rielly won them this game.
They bent but didn't break. McMann did a fantastic job showcasing himself for a trade to the Oilers.
This was a legit game. The Oilers were playing to win this one.
This is a retool. They still need good players for next season.

McMann didn't score on his breakaway, Oilers don't want him anymore.

Oilers 57 games 64 points
Leafs 57 games 63 points
One team is buying and one team is selling with some calling for the nuclear option total rebuild sell everything.
3rd place in the Metro is 57 games 67 pts
Leafs are now 10th seed in the East. Columbus is 9th.
Only 5 teams in the West have more points than the Leafs. Games played notwithstanding.

Did Rielly play? I didn't see him in the box score.

Nope. I'm wondering if they are close to pulling a trade off to move him somewhere. If Treliving is able to do that without eating too much of the contract I give him credit.

Trade the 2028 number one pick and Cowan for Zadorov since Treliving loves big, slow skating, and the inability to move the puck defensemen.
‘Best acquisitions made by Treliving as the Leafs GM were Tanev and OEL. Carlos is probably the only one that fits in your sarcastic criticism.

No he didn't. That was the whole point.
He was in the rafters unable to screw up a defensive play.
Hence he helped the Leafs win and win they did.
Are you aware of Leafs record when they play without Rielly?
Did you see how they look when they play without Rielly?
That Kapanen goal was on Domi. The forward equivalent in the defensive zone.
He was too far to the side boards to be able to cover anyone.
How does a player get what's in effect a breakaway when all 10 skaters are in the defensive zone.
Expect Rielly to look even worse. He'll need a few games to get his timing back to his baseline level.

I'll add Stetcher to the list. Treliving got him for........NOTHING.
