This is always what it was about. It's a contrivance to allow white, Red State America to cheer while non whites are harassed, detained, beaten up and killed for the entertainment of white people.

These cops and ICE agents are the bottom of the barrel in terms of education, intelligence, morality, and humanity. Absolute scum. Worse than criminals.

It used to be that local police forces were the culprits and the feds had to intervene to protect civil rights. Now it’s the reverse.

I remember a comedian saying he had a white European friend who didn't worry about ICE because they only go after non-whites. And this is back more than 10 years ago I heard the joke.

I have always said that fascism exists in a spectrum, and is a process.
This entire mass deportation program is really ethnic cleansing lite.
This is the not so nuanced message the administration intends to communicate when they say "mass deportations".
They are just using ICE to accomplish this and I suspect ICE agents recruited today are generally white supremacist, MAGA ideologues who actually relish terrorizing POCs.

The problem is these us federal agencies are being run by rank amateurs who don't worry too much about the law but instead pleasing the prez. That's why they were appointed. Loyalty, not expertise or competence.
What this also means is that ICE etc knows as long as they do what they think Trump wants they can violate the law at will, because they will get pardoned. That's the scary part.
And that what scares the Feds in the Minneapolis case - the locals COULD bring local charges that would prevent the federal pardon from bailing out the agent in question.
Normally locals and feds work together in situations like this and more often than not the locals defer to the feds as the feds have more resources.
But locking them out entirely is only done if it involved national security/classified issues. Not the case here.
