WHAT other options are there?

I need internet and cable ( I suppose).

My bell is always "Receiver is Rebooting, this may take up to two minutes"

It gets into a repeating loop, plus th e bill is WAAAAYYY up from when I signed up just 6 years ago.

Basically, cable/Internet companies just plain suck.

Bell will give you superior service and very few -- if any -- interruptions, but it tends to be one of the more expensive providers.

Cogeco is somewhat less expensive, but they will screw you around because they always have better deals to offer. I am with Cogeco and every couple of years I have to call them to threaten to quit my service before they pass me off to the Retention department who will give me a better deal to stay.

I run Cogeco strictly for my TV (I know, old school) and use Teksavvy for internet that also runs through cable. Best move I ever made and rarely have a problem. Used to run them through Bell services before but always had glitches. Happy I got rid of Bell many years ago.

Is it possible your download/upload speed is too low therefore you always get a "Receiver is rebooting" message?

Are you in a Condo or a house and in which general area?

I switched from Teksavvy to https://rally.ca/ for my Condo in Mississauga and https://www.telmax.com/internet/ at my parents in York region. Both are fiber - Rally is about 1000Mb - So almost 1 GB/s and Telmax is 2 GB.

I have the same setup except Rogers for TV(basic package plus 1 extra channel) and Teksavvy for internet and tektalk. Used to have a lot of problems. But it is very good these days.

Does Teksavvy have TV, and if so, why don't you guys use that too?

When I lived in Burlington, we had Cogeco. I had to call them yearly with a threat to leave to get a better rate. I always used one of those cheaper services that basically buy Cogeco's bandwidth but sells it for half price as leverage. The telecom companies are always worried about what is called "churn," which is when they lose a customer to a rival. It is significantly cheaper for them to keep you (even on a discounted service) then try to poach someone from another service (even if its as shitty as Bell).

Oh, does anyone use IPTV? A buddy of mine does, and he gets thousands of channels from around the world, including all the Canadian/US ones for something like $10/month (and it even has movies, though the quality can be shitty).

Can never go wrong with Rogers sorry to say but you can try Beanfield which runs as a third feed from Bell.

Good points. Which reminds me, I am going to have to call Cogeco soon and see, again, if I can get a better deal. It has been a few years.

Odds are, you've been paying for a package that no longer exists, and the current, superior package is likely cheaper...I had that happen, and didn't realize it for a few months. It really pays to shop around, even if you have no interest in switching providers (it is a bit of a pain).

If you're in the Halton area, a buddy of mine used Oxio as the potential price difference:

You can get 1gb speeds for $55, which I think Cogeco is probably double that.

Holy crap, thanks for this link -- way cheaper than what I am currently paying. I might actually switch to them, and, if not, I can at least use it as ammo against Cogeco!

Threaten to leave for them. Cogeco will give you a song and dance about how these smaller companies don't have tech support and what not. In the end, they will either match the price, or come close (like $60/month instead of $55), but it's still probably better than what you're paying, and you don't have to do anything, like return their modem or install a new one.

Oh definitely -- last time I called to give up my home phone. I was paying $50 a month for something I almost never even used. Retention department immediately changed it to $15/month, so I stayed, lol

All you really need is internet.

Everything is IPTV based today...unless you are still on digital cable.
Even Rogers Xfinity service is actually a Comcast IPTV service from the US.
There are plenty of free IPTV services available with Amazon Firestick, or Google smart TV's.
Google recently launched Google TV Freeplay with hundreds of free channels ( https://support.tcl.com/us-googletv-common-questions/watch-live-tv-on-google-tv- )
A VPN may be required, but they can be had for less than $3 / month.

If you really want a better deal from your current provider, you need to completely cancel their service.
They will make 3 offers, each less than the one before, as you cancel.
Don't accept any of these offers. Within a week they will call you with an even better offer.
Keep in mind that these offers are contingent upon a 2 year contract.

It does. For me when I compared what I have now vs what it would cost me with Teksavvy the difference was less than $10/month. On top of that, with Teksavvy I'm also paying for 10 CTV stations in their basic package and why would I want that. Therefore I just stayed with what I have and I do have a great discount with Cogeco for another year.

I tried a few of these. They work well during the week but at weekends, the lag was terrible so I discontinued.
