Finding it harder and harder to get guests to pay with cash after deposit. Remember our job is grey area and we need to be careful with how much goes through the bank. It's a huge fear of mine and surely many that are accounts could be closed due to the nature of our work. I also understand no one wants to stop at the bank and withdraw cash- where is the happy middle?

I Think we covered this in the past 2 years or so.

You may have to change your sales tactic.

First minimum wage in Ontario is $17.60 / hour times 2000 hours ( average 40 hours per week in a year is ) $ 35, 200 /year income. IF you can declare this to CRA or not go above this you will be okay. You can declare lower like 10 k but...

Second SW made clients lazy so offer a $20.00 discount if they pay in cash once they get there or the full the price if it is electronic payment.

Keeping cash is hard. I know a lady whose mother passed, she was smart. The mother was a waitress all her life. Every Tuesday ( day off ) she go to the same bank and ask to change her tips to new dollar bills. ( crisp new from the delivery truck). When she passed the children took the money to the bank and they held it to see if it was fake. Since the serial number matched they made a deposit and with drawl right away - 10k I think. I don't think CRA touch them.

Keeping cash now is difficult unless you know someone in banking that could do something for you. I know someone who works for equifax / credit union so I heard some stories.

I only get paid in cash, I don't accept e-transfers unless it's a cancellation fee. A lot of people only accept cash, too like my hair stylish, lash tech, nail tech all prefer cash. My only issue is when I go to the grocery store with large bills.. They always have to check the 100$ bills

Samantha talked about our account being closed, it's not related at all to declaring our income. I declare my income, pay sales taxes and installments to the government, yet my bank could close my accounts if they suspect illegal activity. They don't care that I pay my taxes.

You are correct. The advice given back then (post ) someone suggest to open a business account then.
I remember been in line at the bank a year ago where a contractor had to open another account because he business took off so he had issues. It seems he knew the teller to well after so many visits per week.

Talk to a bank rep or see a lawyer.
Start by saying my friend gets paid cash for decorating and she will ask for cash....

A lot of people who don’t deal with the banking and financial system don’t realize just how bad banks are when it comes to cash and unfortunately Canada is copying the United States in this area - the worst country to follow. The only saving grace is that with the high credit card fees, more businesses, especially small business, are encouraging cash payments again. That leaves some practical problems of course. How the hell do you safely store it if you have it, and will we see an increase in muggings again in large cities such as NYC (especially with the new mayor).

I have never seen a lady turn down a cash payment. Maybe like someone else said, open a few accounts at different banks and use ATMs for deposits a few hundred at a time.

Same here as what most ladies have been saying 😊 I usually get paid in cash but if a client does have to e-transfer the agency takes care of that and I would just collect cash from the agency fee.

Though in the future I wouldn’t mind getting paid in crypto here and there as it’s gonna force me to hold it since withdrawing crypto is a hassle 😊

Omg girl same here I feel like breaking the $100 bills to smaller bills is such a hassle 😆 some places don’t even accept $100 bills anymore

Large bills are always a problem, especially $100 bills. I'd suggest getting$50's instead of $100's and your problems will be minimal since $50's these days are fairly common. Years ago, I used to use mostly lots of $20's to pay for everything but these days I'll use $50s most of the time and very rarely have an issue.

For Samantha, stress in your ads & communications that it's cash only, no exceptions especially to newbies.

So this begs the question: Would you prefer to receive 50 or 20 dollar bills as payment rather than 100s? As the payee, 100s are the most convenient, as you need fewer of them and you're less likely to miscount them. (Packing one wad should be good enough!)

I also get cash, but I don’t require deposits so maybe that makes a difference. I would just make it clear at the time of booking.

Just to confirm - EMT for deposit for XXX, and the remainder in cash at the time of appointment. I don’t accept EMT at the appointment. Thanks.

Clear instruction in the key here.

I'm glad there are still others who share my wariness. I don't pay with anything other than cash. Leaving a paper trail in this industry has always seemed crazy to me, but more so now that AI can be used as a tool to easily form a picture of what an individual has been up to based on what data is floating around out there.

I typically don't see ladies who require a deposit for exactly this reason. On the few occasions I have, it was handled via a gift card.

I was thinking when reading this thread that I don't specify it anywhere on my website, so maybe I was just lucky? But no, I realize I say it in my confirmation email and I am never suggested another method.

E.g. "The deposit is XX$, here's the link and the email address to send it. The balance, XXX$, should be given cash at the beginning of the appointment". I guess it makes it clear because I have no problem getting cash.
