I've seen dozens of other people posting fines of 5 km/h over on Insta, reddit, twitter, and facebook.

I even saw a fine of 2 km/h over the limit which is effing insane!!
This is what they do in Police states, not Canada
Links please!

I was told by a few insiders that it was indeed 11 as well. The 3 tickets I received, 2 were exactly at 11 and one at 12.

AHHHHHHH, feels so good to drive in peace again. VROOOOM VROOOOOOM!!!!

My problem with speed cameras comes down to it being an instant in time and the lack of grace extended. Unless you're religiously watching your speedometer, which poses its own distraction, your speed is going to vary somewhat. Getting a ticket for going 5km/h over the speed limit at a single point in time when you're otherwise consistently doing the limit isn't great. On the flip side, if they had multiple cameras showing you consistently speeding before assigning a ticket, that's another matter. But I'd also want to see a grace range. For example, if multiple speed cameras catch you going 15km/h over the limit (maybe as low as 10km/h over in school zones) 5 times in the span of a week, issue a warning. If another 5 times, issue a small fine. If another 5 times, increase the fine. And so on.

They really bit themselves in the ass by making it too draconian.
Seriously?

Really?

It's basically a little more than 1% of motor vehicle drivers that incur an ASE infraction/fine for going 11kms> over the posted speed limit in school and community safety zones.

What a maroon!

Fark can't make the above shit up!!

1 excess km on top of the speeding 10kms over the limit freebie on 2 separate "just not paying attention at all while driving" episodes with a 2 excess kms as the cherry on to of the cupcake cameo appearance, ASE infraction fine to boot!

Less inattention, more concentration when operating a motor vehicle is recommended.

No need, Dougie handled it for me.

NOTE....2 tickets were at the start and 2nd happened before 1st one arrived. 3rd. was someone I had given my car to, so really, not on my dime.

AGAIN, my boy Dougie has restored my VRRRRROOOOOM VRRRRRRROOOOOM once again.

But of course!

When is Dougsie gonna hand you, "just for you, queasy," personal , lifetime-freebie, "no security of tenure" fridge magnets fer ur rental property kitchens?

As I stated before, focus, concentration and attention should be applied when you're operating a motor vehicle on public roadways.

Absolutely, the last thing I want on my vrooms vrooms are nicks, scratches, door dings, dents. I take care of my vroomabies.

I have to ask Dougie if he can pass a larger parking bill. Parking spaces should be wider, and a rule of no shitboxes allowed to park next to shiny vroom🏎 vrooms🏎. 🏎🏎

Well, I for one would like to see is if there is a difference between before and after in the number of accidents after the removal of the speed cameras. I'm guessing it's not going to as great as Ana thinks but I could be wrong.

1 No points involved as the ticket is against car not driver

2 This means no ticket fighter is involved, as ticket fighter costs as much as a ticket so why bother

3 This means courts are not tied up

4 This means city gets the money, not the ticket fighters

One mistake is the tickets giving incentive to hire ticket fighters to avoid points. This tied up the courts making negotiation easy to avoid trial. Speed cameras avoid that blunder.

So, yes there is a monetary incentive to use cameras.

Driving apps give warnings about speed traps, which slow you down so you avoid ticket, which is the whole idea

Who were the idiots wrecking the cameras? making it unsafe for the neighborhood?

Build a better camera

The idiots destroying the cameras are the one’s who are now speeding with impunity!
Notice that no arrests have been made in the vandalism.
I would not be surprised if the destruction was backed politically at the provincial government level towards removal of this brilliant AI speed camera technology that frees up LE to do other tasks and has many other societal benefits towards public safety, even the safety of the speeders.

Does anybody have data proving that children are getting hit by cars in school zones more than in the 50s or 60s or 70s or 80s. I would like to see the data based per capita. Are they even getting hit at all?

I base the speed I travel on road design, surroundings and weather conditions. For example, if the posted speed limit is 30 km/h on a narrow, one way residential street, I'll drive the speed limit, maybe even a little less if it's dark or raining. But if I'm on the 50 km/h section of the Bayview extension and there's few cars and no pedestrians in sight, I'll go 60 or 70 km/h which is perfectly safe. Especially since the speed limit used to be 60 km/h there. I apply this rule to driving everywhere. Busy roads with pedestrians, cyclists etc., slow down and pay attention. Wide open roads, with excellent visibility, I'm okay with 10-15 km/h over the limit.

But this is what the city was hoping for when they chose many of the locations for these cameras. And that's what makes them a cash grab. For the record, I haven't had a collision or a ticket for any driving infraction (including speed camera) in 30+ years of driving. Be smart about driving, pay attention and pick your places to exceed the limit, within reason.

And why is it Police mostly set up radar in "fishing holes?" Because they can catch the most number of speeders, in the least amount of time. You guessed it, cash grab. They're not going to waste their time doing enforcement in a school zone, during school hours, because it's not worth their time to only catch a few people a day.

I'm not sure what to take from that. Are you saying that's way too many, so we need stricter laws to discourage them? Are you saying it's so low we need stricter laws to catch more in the net?

Never met a leftie or a liberal Karen who didnt love a fee for just about anything. Thank God those useless cameras are gone. You know how you can reduce speed around schools? Biking or walking. Let’s see all the Karens out there on their bikes and their best shoes reducing the speed.

Left, right, it is bullshit ! I am interested in common sense ok instead of following indentity politics to the point of destructive stupidity.
So I agreed with getting ride of the bike lanes which impede motor vehicle traffic but I don’t agree with getting ride of the brilliant AI of speed cameras. In fact I would have like to speed camera drones which would shoot out the tires of anyone travelling 40 Km/h over and drones tasering speed camera vandals .
How is that for fucking right or left ?

I would laser and jam the drones' signal and send them into the cameras!!!! 🏎 🏎

We should not allow society to move toward computers and robots policing us. If we do, basic freedoms will be gone quickly. Humanity is at an inflection point with respect to technology. Enslavement is NOT inevitable. Say NO to automated law enforcement for today and tomorrow.
