Long past the time that entire shitshow is reorganized.
About time.
This strike I advocate for a 300% raise, paid vacations (as in the vacation itself is fully paid for), free dental, free anal, pension at 40, double break time, and a spa/sauna in every canada post warehouse.

I'm a tad uneducated regarding this whole situation, so I may be wrong, but...
They haven't given two shits about the residents of Canada during their multiple strikes, yet they "care" now that their jobs are in danger and post office closures are imminent?
And think another strike will solve anything?

Small retailers will suffer from another strike. They're not helping their situation with another strike. I was just about to order some stuff from China, but I won't take a chance.
I used to believe that, but every time there's a strike, businesses make changes to adapt. I'm mostly retired, but still work some. None of my suppliers mail invoices, nor do I. I pay all my bills electronically, and payments to me come via ETF (at my request, since I travel a lot).
Direct mail is still a thing, but less and less all the time.
So other than Christmas cards, do we even need a postal service?
Of course there's the issue of remote communities, but if we weren't paying CP millions of dollars a day for shit service, we could afford to pay some courier company a shit-ton of money to deliver that stuff.
We keep fighting to keep CP alive, but can anyone imagine it still being alive in 20 years? It's just another buggy-whip maker that's being killed by technology...
I get my banking by mail, I don't like my credit cards (with my numbers) going online by Email. I pay them by phone.
The idiots voted down the final offer. They are losing over a billion dollars a year, but expect the taxpayer to fund them, when they are the ones killing business with their work stoppages. That union is insane and delusional. Parcels have moved to other companies and letters died off due to the internet... they have to streamline and cut back on service. Once a week delivery to a super mailbox is fine.
Yet another example of labour unions collectively bargaining their members into unemployment. I find it extremely difficult to have any sympathy for their position. When you play ostrich and bury your head in the sand all you do is leave yourself open to having your ass kicked. The government should have made the proposed reforms years ago
Ya I've heard about people like you. You have faith that your information will be kept safe after being printed on paper and mailed by a third party contractor, then dumped in the mail where it should be delivered by someone who is chronically pissed off about their job and employer, then left to sit in a box someplace that might be locked if you're in an apartment, or it might be left in one stuck to the front of your house and left for anyone to grab all day, until you get home.
That's definitely safer than a digital transaction that does direct from the bank to you over a highly secure, encrypted network that uses two-factor security protocols. (Assuming you don't use your dog's name as a password.)

You are also placing your faith in the assumption these online security protocols can't be breached. They most certainly can and are on a fairly regular basis
While I feel bad for those who still rely on Canada Post, it's clear they're not worth the effort of continuously bailing out. Their losses are only going to continue to mount, especially if the union gets their ridiculous demands.
We may as well bite the bullet now and get an actual resolution, than find some halfway compromise that costs taxpayers billions and only kicks the can a few years.

There are 2 big misconceptions here that I see everytime CP comes into the news:
I think some people here think Canada Post is a business like any other that needs to be competitive and streamlined and generate shareholder equity etc. It's not. It's a public service and a crucial one at that. Just because you get bills online or whatever doesn't mean that it isn't necessary. The country is massive and there's no other company that services it all like CP. Not only that but they keep the price of postage ridiculously low, forcing private shippers to bring their prices down to be in a similar ballpark. Fuck, we can send a letter 5000+ km across the country for $1.24!! Without CP the cost of shipping goes through the roof. Not only that, but many of these other companies use CP channels at ports of calls/borders and for inaccessible locations anyways. "I'll just use iPost if they disappear" or whatever is a stupid thing to say.
The other thing is regarding unions. I have no idea why people who don't have collective bargaining agreements with their employers bash those that do. Are you upset that they want more out of their job or jealous that they actually get it? Don't you realize that their getting more from their employers raises the tide for all boats? It means more for people in the private and public sectors as employees get a fairer shake. Just because you don't have anyone fighting for you to get more doesn't mean they shouldn't. They're the reason you have a weekend, or a 40-hour work week, or safety standards, and every other thing you consider standard about working in this country.
