Pay as you go through Koodo is pretty cheap. $25 or $30 for a basic text and talk plan.

I went to one store so far and the clerk had no clue just like @carloska1961 reported. Did the replacement SIM card not come with instructions? If memory serves my old SIM came with explicit instructions on how to register by phone or online.
