As soon as I heard this I immediately though Wu-Tang Clan. Sure enough the RZA sampled a lyrical portion of this song for GZA's "Shadowboxin"

When I Saw You Review by Matthew Greenwald
One of Phil Spector's most reserved productions ever, "When I Saw You" is also one of the few recorded songs that he wrote by himself. A simple, jazzy blues, the song is based in the trio jazz format, and the only other instrumentation is the superb orchestral arrangement by Jack Nitzsche. A pleading tale of the longing of love, its sparse feel makes it one of the best songs that Ronnie Spector ever sang. Given the fact that Phil and Ronnie were in the throes of early romance, it's particularly effecting. One of the standouts on the album The Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica as well as the Back to Mono box set. Chilling and beautiful, all at the same time.

Interestingly, the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear this song is what I felt when my daughter was born. I have never experienced a more pure love.

Even now, 32 years later, when I hear it my eyes get moist...

Same!
It's still my "happy place" music.
I think it's time for a Doo Wop thread.
Start one and I'll be happy to contribute...

Here's one for now, in this thread:

One of my faves when I was 14, in 1959.

Taped it off the radio using a microphone and my Webcor reel to reel tape recorder, which was a Bar Mitzvah present from my 5 paternal uncles.

Was amazed that a doo-wop song got radio play in Winnipeg.

Finally was able to find and buy the actual Shan-Todd '45 many years later in a NYC Greenwich Village record store, "Bleeker Bob's Village Oldies". Bought all 3 copies they had...
