HR Derby is boring, fuck it or add the following:

Fastest runner from home to first, fastest runner from home plate to home plate.
Most accurate and fastest throw from outfield from the warning track thrown to a target at the plate.
and... Best Bat Flip and HR Trot

The derby has lost its lustre. They should do some sort of skills competition like the NHL does. Running bases. Throwing accuracy. Hard hit ball (exit velocity) and longest hit HR.

Vlad wins the gatorade dump

It would not work as there would be concern of injury

Even the homerun derby has caused injuries so hitters refuse to do it, although it would be more entertaining

Baseball is a boring game so hard to spice it up. You can't just bring random players to the game.

All star game will use the automated balls/strikes system, will be interesting to see how accurate it is.

This is a great platform to showcase the technology. It seems that there are a lot of really bad or missed calls compared to a few years ago. I also find that umpires are more aggressive and confrontational than they ever were in the past.

There was a time when all-star games were a must see.

You just didn't see most of these players outside of your favourite team.

The games were taken seriously by the players and there was the rivalry between the AL and the NL.

Christ Pete Rose ran over Ray Fosse to win a game...

Today is all about the $.

Funny you bring up Rose-Fosse. A friend wrote me last weekend that he was visiting relatives in Marion, Illinois. That's Fosse's hometown, and there's a ball park there called Ray Fosse Park. There's also a federal prison there where Pete Rose served a few months after being convicted on tax evasion in 1990. He wondered (joked) whether Rose was assigned to maintenance duty at Ray Fosse Park
