Connor McDavid trade rumors are the NHL’s biggest story, and only 1 team makes sense
Connor McDavid can either become LeBron James, or Kevin Durant.
Connor to the Leafs?
Nope, if he gets traded the whole roster will be depleted in order to get him. Even if he's an unsigned rental the price will be astronomical. No way he's just walking away I dont think. I guess a no trade clause could change all that. If he declines a trade and then walks away he'll be hated in edmonton, legacy destroyed.I think he runs out his current contract in Edmonton and goes to where he can win a cup. The window has closed on Edmonton and they failed to fill the one pressing need, goaltending.
Surprised some players do not take discounts to sign with an organization that is close to or hell bent on winning. I understand the whole ego thing and being paid market value, but if you never win the trophy, that's gotta be tough. How many discussions in sports circles center around being a great player but never won the biggest prize.

It's 20% so when mcdavid is due in 26/27 the cap will be projected 104 million. He'll do 2 or 3 years i believe at 18 mill or so, then cash in when cap is 120 mill plus.Salary cap, he can only occupy a certain % of the team's total salary cap, think it's like %18 so like $15.75M/yr. is the max he can sign.

For a second I thought your post was about the Maple Leafs.Edmonton will have 4 players making over half their payroll. I think their best chances to win are behind them, nurse just rejected waiving his no trade clause. I think in mcdavids 30s he'll become a Kevin Durant type ring chaser.
I doubt his wife's business is even a factor at all on him getting moved or his next contract. His wife has a few businesses in edmonton including a recently opened restaurant. I doubt he leaves, probably sign a 3 or 4 year deal. He probably spends his summers there now too. Him at 18 mil per season doesn't leave much to fill out the roster. He'll want another contract when he's 31 when the cap is 120 mil plus.
