I think that's honestly giving the armed forces too much credit. At least with a paper tiger there is some ambiguity to how well it would perform in combat. The CAF is more like an old beat up pickup truck that's been left in the front yard for three decades and has a tree growing out of its engine blockSo essentially a paper tiger.
The Canadian military is in shambles. Their staffing crisis goes far beyond what is publicly admitted by the government. According to an old friend from high school who just left, the Canadian Army can't even field a full strength brigade of 5000 men. Based on what I was told, even if they pressed support staff into line infantry battalions the equipment needed either doesn't exist because it was given away to Ukraine or is in such disrepair it can't be used.
More like a house cat. lmao.So essentially a paper tiger.
Why is that wrong? Not to worry. Carney said he is going to fix/invest in the military.![]()
It's not wrong but we all know he won't.Why is that wrong?
Isn't that what he needs to do?
Well, I guess time will tell. It's not wrong but we all know he won't.
Its time to hire a bunch of gamers out of high school and turn the Canadian army into drone operators. The Canadian military is in shambles. He'll do the bare minimum which was more than Justin did...Trudeau decimated what was left of Canada's military. It's not wrong but we all know he won't.
In a word, yes. Fortunately I don't see any serious threats to Canada as of right now but God help us if one does appearSo the worlds second largest land mass is essentially undefended and at the mercy of countries with a fully functioning military. That's a chilling thought. I probably shouldn't watch Red Dawn right now.![]()
If there's anything you can learn from the war in Ukraine it's that combined arms is still very much how modern armies win wars. Drones have been used to the point of absurdity by both sides and as a result increasingly effective counter measures are being turned out to jam or otherwise neutralize drones. So much so that the latest developments in drone warfare are revolving around use of fiber optic cables to prevent signal jamming. They are unfortunately not the wonder waffen people would like them to be and basing your entire defense strategy on a technology that can be reliably countered is a recipe for disaster. Every modern army is going to use them but the good ones won't be entirely reliant on them. Its time to hire a bunch of gamers out of high school and turn the Canadian army into drone operators.
That's the way of the future.
I think the nation as a whole needs to think long and hard about what the CAF is going to do looking out into the future and how much we are willing to spend on it. It's clear that the existing cold war era force structure isn't going to work but massively expanding the size and role of the CAF is going to face almost insurmountable head winds.Building the Canadian military to be some sorta mini USA military is a waste of money. It should be purely defensive. We should rely extensively on drones and missile, and maritime patrol planes. We should also build a couple of large logistics support ships for peacetime use that can operate CH-47s, These should be lightly armed and have medical facilities, cargo etc, to cover national and international emergencies. IF we are serious about the arctic, we need to build some serious ice breakers, not the toys we currently have, or lease them from Russia as no one else builds ice breakers equal to Russia
More like a paper kitten. So essentially a paper tiger.
