Tell us you have no clue without telling us you're clueless. One has nothing to do with the other. And btw taking 80% of one's wealth/income is confiscation. Fortunately those exorbitant rates didn't last long.
Now we need to get our rates down to below 50% for every province in Canada. The only way that will happen is to vote blue.
The amazing part is that this conservatives always refer to the times when those tax rates were that hight as 'the good old days' that they want to replicate now.
Only somehow they think more tax cuts for the rich and trickle will do it. This time.

Absolutely! Tax the rich!
If not, then dramatically lower if not cut off OAS for homeowners so Boomers can used their hard-earned home equity for pull themselves up by their bootstraps and pay their way!
Let`s see. I`m 68 years old, worked 45 years straight, sometimes worked 2 or 3 jobs same time for a few years when needed, and never took a dime from the government, ever. I now own my 4th house and yes I get all the government cheese, CPP, OAS, GST credits, Trillium, OSHPTG. On top of two company pensions. More work and less pissing and moaning pays well. There`s likely a bunch of guys just like me on TERB too.

You are 68? Then you bear some responsibility for the current state of this country. But, it was amusing to see you list all the government “cheese” you are receiving while claiming you have never taken a dime from the government.

It would be nice to hear less mindless pissing and moaning from you.

Took nothing while working. Now I receive everything Canada says I can, same as you and everyone else. I paid my way, how about you?

The above does not compute if you receive OSHPTG.

Do you own 4 houses presently?

RZG has paid into and earned everything he is receiving from the government.
New immigrants and asylum claimants haven't paid 1 cent into any government program, but get more government benefits than Canadian born citizens.

The current state of this country falls directly on the liberal government of the the last 10 years. This is undisputable.

Oh ya, no doubt there is a bunch of old Boomers on TERB who celebrate growing up with low taxes, low traffic, subsidized housing, cheap tuition, great healthcare (yet somehow "never took a dime from the government :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:") and are celebrating grinding GenZ & Millennials into the dirt.

No, he paid into low taxes, low traffic, subsidized housing, cheap tuition, great healthcare. What he did in the past does NOT entitle him - and all Boomers - to create conditions where the younger generations are fucked over because old because don't have the decency to die already.

OAS has nothing to do with homeownership
And there is an income claw back already attached to OAS

one can not access the equity in a home without selling it or borrowing against the equity
Oh yes it does since OAS is funding out of current spending. We're in the hold with deficit spending and need more taxes. Taxing Residential sales is the way to do this.

OAS claw back needs to be lower from $150K (are you fucking kidding me?????) to more like $75K which is already rich by average Canadian standards.

Time to start addressing the old, wrinkled, grey elephant in the room.

low wages= low taxes
lower taxes was also due to less government programs like daycare, dental care and pharma care.
smaller population = less traffic
subsidized housing? Where did you get from?
40-50 years ago every thing was cheaper including tuition.
better health care was do to better patient to doctor ratio from lower population

He paid into all of his government benefits so YES he is entitled to ALL of them.
Really, you want old people to die already?
You are a real POS.

Do some research.
OAS clawback starts at $90,997.

How much can you make before OAS is clawed back?

What is OAS clawback? The government starts reducing your OAS amount once you make over $90,997 in 2024 taxable income — note that this figure changes annually according to inflation. This reduction is commonly referred to as a “clawback,” but is formally known as a “recovery tax.”
