Cars are a waste of money if you have a money problem. If you don't, cars are awesome/fun/liberating. Perspective is everything.
Don't let fear rule your life, enjoy whatever car you can afford. You could get hit by a cement truck crossing the street in Toronto and never make it to your expensive car.
We need a feel good story in the news where we see a car jacker getting knifed to death or shot in line of the duty of his work
And the car jacker's mother going on tv saying "he was a good boy"
It would only be a feel good story if the person who did the stabbing/shooting got off Scott free.
I don't get the fascination with luxury cars. There's little difference between them and run of the mill cars these days. With a luxury car, you're just over paying for gimmicks that you may never use.
I still wouldn't want such a car even if I had the income to support it and theft was a non-issue. I'd still have to worry about all the other cars on the road. Secondly, our climate is very hostile to cars: salt, rain, slush, potholes, etc. Third, it won't change how much of a pain it is to drive in the GTA.

Driving a $700K car is like driving with a target on your back. You would have to get a daily driver ( $100-150K ) and an inconspicuous car to go along with the luxury car.
It's a really sad state of affairs in society when blame is slowly shifted to people who drive 'nice' cars.
Honda CRV's, Jeeps, FORD F150's, etc are still being stolen and jacked. These don't rank as 'nice' cars in the traditional sense
So our incredibly backward Canadian solution is to drive 'unattractive' cars? Why not continue the trend by dressing like slobs and living in squalor so you don't get robbed? The logic we're turning to is becoming asinine with each passing day.
This is not difficult to fix. Crimes are increasingly perpetrated because there is NO deterrent. NONE !!! And for those people who don't understand, and choose to 'victim-blame' make an effort to understand why robberies, carjackings, thefts, hate crimes, mischiefs, etc are on the rise. THERE IS NO DETERRENT. The criminal code spells out the penalty for each type of crime. Libtard judges take a different view and recently introduced Bills almost guarantee no one is held in custody.
There are documented cases of carjackers leaving court and stealing a vehicle from the parking lot on their way out. Criminals know they won't be held in custody for anything less than murder so they take advantage.
