Canadians will not buy only EV's in the future. Are our governments watching?

To be clear, I don't have a problem with removing the subsidy.

I don't have a problem with that. I got mine without a subsidy and I'm very happy with the purchase. The subsidy is not as important as it once was, as the EV prices are no longer substantially higher than ICE models. I'd rather have it limited to vehicles that are substantially built in Canada...

Canadians will not buy only EV's in the future. Are our governments watching?

Right, so basically it's saying EV growth remains robust globally and Canada is an outlier, probably owing to concerns about tariffs and people likely holding off on their purchases waiting for the rebate to be re-instated. Just like you might wait for a boxing day sale to buy a new TV...

Absolutely not true. For commuters they are a much better choice and it's not even close. I bought mine with no rebate and I save over $250 per month in fuel. It's also better performing compared to my last cadillac, which was great, but doesn't hold a candle to the EV.

There are tons of rebates for energy efficient stuff. Furnaces, insulation, windows... And EV cars ARE selling. They're more than 20% of all sales now. Pick-up truck sales are around 20% too.

They just scrapped the EV mandate so you can relax. https://globalnews.ca/news/11653721/canada-auto-sector-strategy-2026/

Agree to disagree on the timeline, but I definitely can blame people for being hostile about the vehicles and those who buy them. They're a great product that serve their purpose well. Are they for everyone right now? Of course not. But for me, it's ideal.

I do own a home. And you're right. I wouldn't have the same option if I was in a different living situation. I don't judge anyone's choices (or lack of choice). However, I do find it weird that some people who drive traditional vehicles are so hostile and judgemental to people that own EVs.

So don't buy one. Why the vitriol? Are you threatened by them?

If that were true, GM would have to buy me a new battery every year since the battery is under warranty for 8-years / 160,000 km. I won't have the car for even half that time. If I were doing a lot of cross country driving, I probably wouldn't have bought an EV. I'd wait for better...

Canadians will not buy only EV's in the future. Are our governments watching?

    (a) I was paying $250-$300 for gas. My EV charger tracks my energy use and cost based on time-of-use. Nov was $55.36, Dec was $47.91, Jan is $9.40 (so far). Before you tell me that I overpaid for the car, my lease is $50 per month more than my last car, and the new one is superior in every way...

Some of us like charging our cars like smartphones. 99% of the time it's WAY more convenient that having to stop at a gas pump. I park in my garage and I start every day with a full "tank". I can start the climate control on a cold day and let it run for up to an hour in my garage, and never...

Yeah, I was offering my opinion in what I thought was a open discussion. I'm not interested in engaging in an argument and defending my choices. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything.
