Hoffman blows another hold, gives up HR in the 9th! He is worse than Romano and McClaughlin combined!!!! Post game, Schneider says he will continue using Hoffman as closer, has faith in him. It's crunch time, no time for faith!!!
Luckily Yanks and Bosox also lose.

The problem is we have nobody better suited to the closer role. Hoffman's main problem is serving up gopher balls. He's given up 15 of them in 62 IP. Last year he gave up only 6 in 66 IP.

Jays magic numbers:
For the playoffs 5 games
For the division 10 games.

My magic number 69.

Jays path to the big show is blocked by the relievers

Jays will not score against the better staff in the playoffs like they are now

so they need the relievers to shut down other teams like they will be shut down

They are fully aware of this fatal flaw so they will bring up Trey

Trey has pitched like a superstar but to expect him to be star reliever is silly but he could help and Jays are desperate

so give him a chance to fit in as they are hoping for a miracle

Their serious problem of a lack of a star reliever is being understated but it is very serious and they are at a loss to know what the solution is

They thought they had 2 star relievers at the start of the season and now they have none

This situation makes winning the division more compelling as that means one less playoff series
their relievers can lose

One thought is do not bring him up until the playoffs so his pitching is a mystery. Bringing him up now will allow teams to figure him out as the advantage is always to the new pitcher as he is unknown. While the batter are unknown to Trey that does not matter as Kirk will be calling the pitches

Just watched Yesavage strike out the side in the 4th at Tampa. On 10 pitches. Effortlessly. With the Rays so overmatched that they didn't even foul a ball off.

This kid has HoF written all over him. Velocity. Control. Movement. Pitch selection.

Great outing by Yesavage, but how does Tampa keep finding and developing all these pitchers?

Great debut by Trey, Rays starter was also good, great pitching duel, and Hoffman didnt blow the hold, lol
Jays are only 3 games back of Brewers for first overall in Majors, vital for home field advantage all the way to WS.

I just want them to win the division could care less if they get best record overall. Because the chances of making the World Series is slim. Bullpens are key and ours is not good.

Yesavage pitched a great game, only problem that I see - he pitches like Juan Guzman.

Is Bo out for the season?

The 2023 Rangers had the worst regular season bullpen of any team to make the playoffs in the 2000's. And somehow they figured it out and won the World Series.

All you need is some arms to get hot. Playoffs are short series and very random. For every time there is a Los Angeles - New York world series like last year where the cream rises, there is also a number of worse teams that make it far in the playoffs (Texas and Arizona in 2023). The odds for the best teams are a bit higher... but not remarkably so.

He also pitches like Justin Verlander.

I'd like to hear from a mechanics guru if his over the top approach is more likely to lead to injuries or not. Although pretty much most ways to pitch in MLB are violent on your arm, except perhaps submariners.

As for Bo, word is that he could come back as the DH. Would probably weaken our lineup a bit with him as DH instead of at SS, but you take that situation over him not playing.
