Trump and Musk aside, shouldn't Treasury payments be almost a matter of public record?
I find it odd that some "auditors" can't get access to this information.
I think the bigger concern was his ability to mess with payments for the various programs, access to sensitive personal data such as SSNs and bank account numbers among other things.

I think that concern is subterfuge.

What I said is likely the new normal? More transparency of govt. payments.

Now if they need to look at personal data to get at who is the ultimate recipient of funds that too should be standard. I'm kind of surprised how quickly these guys are digging into govt. information. Again, it should be transparent.

Data security and privacy is a very valid concern.
Especially when it concerns SSNs, account numbers etc.,
Payments should not be terminated overnight because Elon said so.
Transparency can be achieved carefully, without an unelected billionaire and his goon squad composed of some 20 year old whipper snappers, with no senate confirmation, getting access to sensitive data overnight.
Any terminations of payments should be carefully reviewed, explained and then acted upon.
DOGE is subterfuge and a side show circus act created to normalize America's descent into authoritarianism.

Why would you think that giving a racist billionaire personal control over how money is spent would be more transparent?
You think he would open his accounts and tell us what is happening at tesla as well?

He shut down USAID because he was being investigated

It's a major gift to dictators everywhere.
If you've ever left the USA and lived in other countries for more than a week, USA and it's ideals and aid is part of the reason it was loved, whereas the Russia s and Chinese hated. USAID was the biggest and most effective ad campaign ever. Trump is unilaterally disarming, ceding the developing world to china.
Well done Don.
Ps BTW when you shut this stuff down suddenly, not only do you fuck over your American colleagues, you fuck overall the businesses that provide the aid, and you end up losing all sorts of food etc that will rot on the docks.
It's a special kind of stupid that does not analyze intense how things work before throwing the switch.

These engineers and in one case a kid still in school with no public experience now have access to the treasury departments payment system.
You couldn't make this up.

They are going to find a lot of surprisingly hot people who are suddenly interested in them and their work coming onto them now.
Easiest honeypot targets in history, maybe.

This is actually quite common in the course of running large businesses.
Trump is employing Musk to lookl at it like a business.
Unless the various agencies can demonstrate that Congress or a Cabinet Dept. Head authorized such payments specifically, the payments are authorized by an unelected and unconfirmed bureaucrat.
The Courts will decide whether Musk and his team can look at the records.
I think it would be uncharted territory to deny the Executive the ability to hire outside auditors of his choosing.
Now given the politics, some Courts might delay but I don't think it ultimately gets prevented.

If you're concerned about "subterfuge", how does a team of sophomoric 25 year old frat boys snurffling into private government records help you?

Like everything else that Tusk and Mrump are doing, shouldn't it be properly planned out, thoroughly debated and transparent? Rather than just an ad hoc bullshit jerk off uncontrolled power play?????

I'm sure they could.

Musk wasn't there to audit.
He was there to take over the payment system.

It is not a business.
But that is besides the point.
These are government programs, with sensitive information that an unaccountable, unelected, unconfirmed billionaire who bought himself into the administration, should not have any access to.
If he is going to look at it then have him confirmed via the senate, and set proper procedure and protocol for identifying wasteful programs, how much data is exposed to him and explaining why they need to be cut, and then follow proper established protocol.
Elon knows nothing about governing a country and he should not be shutting down programs without scrutiny based on a whim.
