It seemed like only yesterday that it was Christmas, and now it is Christmas again. Yet, as a kid Christmases seemed to be an eternity apart. Does the second half of your life pass by faster than the first half too? What's going on here?
That is the key indicator that we're getting old. This year blew by at a rapid speed. Or that's how it seems because of age. Just try and enjoy the days and don't take time for granted...It seemed like only yesterday that it was Christmas, and now it is Christmas again. Yet, as a kid Christmases seemed to be an eternity apart. Does the second half of your life pass by faster than the first half too? What's going on here?
It seems to go faster to me. One explanation I heard was our perception of how quickly time passes changes because a certain amount of time(let's say one year) represents a smaller percentage of our life as we get older. When we are 10 years old one year represents 10%. When we are 40 years old one year represents 2.5%. When we are 80 years old one year represents 1.25%.It seemed like only yesterday that it was Christmas, and now it is Christmas again. Yet, as a kid Christmases seemed to be an eternity apart. But this contradicts Shaquille's response: The more bored you are, slower time seems to pass.It is because everything is not new to you now. So, it is now more monotony.
If no longer working that might be the case. But this contradicts Shaquille's response: The more bored you are, slower time seems to pass.
I've been retired for 4 years. It seems like time flies since I retired.I’m in my late 50s now and feel this year has gone by so quickly. It was a busy year. Wondering if the perception of time will slow down when I retire in a couple of years. Maybe some retirees can offer their perspective?
Ya this theory is well documented. Ad to the fact the amount of down time, self regulation and what not has not be learned. Most kids fail the marshmallow test when first exposed to it but many adapt and learn to wait and get more marshmallows by waiting 5 minutes. It seems to go faster to me.
