Barf 🤮 there's a lack of good charismatic politicians nowadays.

Mélanie Joly, Canada’s top diplomat, has already faced off against India and China, with Donald Trump up next. She’s also considered a top contender to replace Justin Trudeau.

The offer was as enticing as it was unexpected for a relative political newcomer. Three years ago, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked Mélanie Joly to become foreign affairs minister, among the most prestigious and highest profile portfolios in Canada’s cabinet.

But Ms. Joly, who at the time held a significantly less influential ministerial role, turned him down flat.
Her refusal wasn’t because of the fact that she lacked foreign policy experience. She said no because she feared that the travel involved in the globe-trotting job would force her to abandon her yearslong quest to conceive a child through in vitro fertilization.
But Canada’s leader refused to give up.

Mr. Trudeau offered to make whatever arrangements necessary to maintain Ms. Joly’s treatment anywhere in the world. “‘If you become pregnant,’” she remembers him telling her, “‘it would be a fantastic message you would send to the world.’”

After consulting her husband, parents and siblings, Ms. Joly relented, becoming Canada’s top diplomat.

Like her counterparts around the world, Ms. Joly has since had to grapple with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Then there are the diplomatic stresses specific to Canada.
She is still trying to heal a rift with China that developed after that country jailed two Canadians in apparent retaliation for Canada’s arrest of a Chinese executive at the request of the United States.
Now she’s at the center of Canada’s greatest diplomatic crisis in recent years: accusations that the government of India and its diplomats worked with criminal gangs to intimidate and even murder Canadian citizens who are supporters of a separate Sikh state.

And the return of President-elect Donald J. Trump, and his threat to impose large tariffs on Canadian goods, poses so many diplomatic, economic and immigration issues that Mr. Trudeau has revived a cabinet committee on U.S. relations that includes Ms. Joly.
Her handling of all these challenges has brought Ms. Joly, 45, both praise and criticism.

But what is less open to debate: The high-profile job has placed her among the likely successors to Mr. Trudeau, whose political popularity has cratered over the past year.
Like all members of Mr. Trudeau’s cabinet, Ms. Joly is publicly supportive of the prime minister. But other members of the Liberal Party have urged him to resign to let a new voice lead the party into elections that must be held by next October.
Mr. Trudeau has rebuffed these calls to quit as party leader, which would also mean resigning as prime minister. But speculation in the Canadian news media about who his successor will be — whenever that time comes — invariably includes Ms. Joly.

“I’ve known Trudeau for a long, long time, and he has my hundred percent support — period,” she said. “But the middle class is hurting, and Canadians expect us to be there for them.”
She added: “We need to be able to adapt.”

I haven't heard her talk that much to make a call one way or the other.

She's a good looking woman though
She's no friend of Israel. when all the genocidal comments against were shooting out, she was quiet. From the river to the sea she was quiet, Israel will soon be gone she was quiet, the final solution shouting she was quiet.

Only if she wants to be Kim Campbell. The Liberals are done for this cycle. If Trudeau resigns before the election it would be just as bad a shellacking.
successor?
that would be like taking over for Captain Ed Smith after he hit the iceberg.
She would focus on securing a spot in one of lifeboats, before those in steerage

yes she is a fine looking lady
I saw a video of her appearing as a compelled witness before a parliamentary committee
I cant recall which liberal scandal the committee was investigating ( There are so many scandals I can not keep track of them )

To be fair, being summoned to testify before a parliamentary committee puts you in the hot seat
The opposition (conservative committee members) gets to go at you with very direct yes/ no type of questions. Within their allocated time.
Liberal committee members can play defence by raising silly assed time wasting points of order
unlike in parliament witnesses are required to answer direct questions with direct answers

Not her , she was having none of that
she was rude, condescending and arrogant, avoided providing a straight answer 90% of the time and in deflection mode
shes got the Trudeau stank on her

yes she is a fine looking lady, but you would never get your balls back from her

You are right.
That is the most important issue facing Canada today.
There is no housing crisis, inflation, job loss, an immigration crisis.
A war half way across the world unrelated to Canada is the primary issue we should judge a prospective PM candidate on.

How any self respecting person would voluntarily allow themselves to be led by Justin Trudeau is a mystery
I could see back in 2015 , one might think, hey, he got us a majority , we can really accomplish some good here.

but after nine years of a ring side seat to all the failures, scandals and mis-management one should do some reflecting about the horse you hitched your wagon to.

Imaging sitting in his cabinet and observing the unobstructed view of his ego and utter stupidity flowing on a daily basis? Yuck
In addition, you get to observe him skewer collogues as under the bus sacrifices to save his worthless ass from an endless stream of scandals
after several rounds of that , you look around the table and notice all that are left are boot-licking sycophants, eager to stroke Justin's ego
Do the cabinet chairs come with a pocket filled with a set of vomit bags ?

“I’ve known Trudeau for a long, long time, and he has my hundred percent support — period,” she said
she's uncurable

Sarcasm noted
no (again !)
You judge her on her performance in the cabinet roles she was offered and accepted
and that is being very fair to her
she was not directly responsible for housing, fiscal or immigration policy, the respective ministers and ultimately Justin Trudeau were
she is responsible to the extent these failures were liberal party failures and she has to wear a lot of that.

you judge her directly on the mess that is foreign affairs and
judge her for her 100% support of Justin Trudeau and
for being a member of the most corrupt, ineffective and irresponsible government in Canadian history

she will not expend the energy required to rebuild the liberals and she wont wait the decade + that will require
she already has a plan b already lined up
she is not a leader, she is an opportunist

Thank you, we all know by now that Canada is a disaster with high rents, expensive food, inflation, high prices of gas under the liberals. On top of that we have a tendency of flooding the country with migrants that hate Jews, so what does she do? Instead of condemning them, she lets them go.

There are Jews that hate Muslims too.
Antisemitism and Islamophobia have both increased.
But the other issues are primary.

She will be crushed in debates. She’s so bad. She makes a lot of senses in her current role. But always under the spotlight live like a prime minister. Nope. It just won’t work.

She's alright, nothing great though. I'd still bang her. I'm sure if she ever gets in Trump will fuck her up big time.

She isn't even qualified to be foreign minister.

I find it hard to believe the NY times picked her. Maybe they're promoting her considering they're left.

But the other issues are primary.

The only real expectations most Canadian have of new comers are
  1. respect and obey the laws of the land
  2. work hard, be productive , prosper and employ others if you are able i.e contribute to the economic prosperity of the country
  3. worship your faith in a peaceful manner and leave the religious/ ethnic intolerances hatred, violence of the old country behind you
Welcome to Canada , best wishes for success
  1. Jewish people have lived in Canada peacefully for much of its history
  2. Antisemitism was a familiar word many generations of Canadians grew up learning
  3. Islamophobia was not until maybe 10-15 years ago
  4. Trudeau opened the borders
  5. there was not a massive influx of Jewish immigrants
  6. Now as you say Antisemitism and Islamophobia have both increased.
figure it out

do not pretend the rise of Antisemitism is Christian. based
How many Christian were chanting death to Israel at Bathurst and Sheppard in the middle of the day ?
It is.
Most of the antisemitism and Islamophobia is from Christians.
Muslims account for very less.
Jews also account for very less.
The 20 year old man arrested for shooting at the Jewish school was a Christian guy.
The landlord that stabbed and killed a Palestinian child in Chicago, was Christian.
The guy who ran over a Muslim family and killed them was Christian.
The people marching and chanting in pro-Palestinian protests are of all religions, not just Muslim.
