I've been hoping the right wing would go back to trying to hype this attack line.
They floated it immediately after he was named, but switched to the "Stolen Valor" one because I guess they thought it was more promising. Since that didn't work as well as they like, and "he is racist against whites because he joked about not liking spices" is just making them the butt of jokes, they have circled back to the DUI.

Oh no! You can never forgive a DUI! is a deeply stupid approach, obviously.
No one is going to buy that as disqualifying.

I get they are going to try and pitch the "But he didn't admit it in his first run" and who knows, suckers and idiots will be swayed by that.
With enough media amplification, it might work.

The problem is this is literally part of his story of getting sober.
I think most people are going to see the story of someone getting their life right after fucking up and be pretty sympathetic.
The problem as always, is the cover up, and not the crime.

The scrutiny is unfair for a man who hasn't done it again and even has given up alcohol. Yet you want to compare him to TRUMP'S past? Really??? Give your head a shake man.
Seems to me you are applying a double standard. Come on the national stage get national attention.

Is he that weak a candidate this will harm him?

He is a very strong candidate and that by the looks of it burns your ass. What do you think of what Trump said regarding the Medal of Honor? Do you believe he deserves the support of Veterans?

You can't expect Butler to read details when the Narrative is what he wants to hear.
Details are clear. Dui, reckless driving. Pled guilty. No re occurance. Came back up when he ran for Congress. Lies about it. Comes up again, with receipts when he runs for Governor. This time has to own it. Still gets elected. Now on the national stage, has to own it for a new batch of voters.

So he owns, makes a clear statement of doing so, adds to his sober "Narrative" (Because Dems have those too!) And moves on.

Doing anything else, whether cover up, or not being clear, says to people maybe he isn't as sorry as he claims.

Which isn't good for credibility, is it?

If you look in the larger thread on him, I Said he did several good things in the state with a razor thin majority. He is arguably a more credible candidate than Harris due to his actually living up to promises. And not being a political weather vane.

The question is, will he be buried in Washington?

What are you talking about? What I said was, the cover up is always worse than the crime.
Yes, except when trumps cover up of his Russia debacle was discovered by mueller but mueller report was too long to read for 99% of the population and then the entire obstruction issue was blatantly suppressed by bill barr.

I'd say it was widely reported in the press. And was a factor in the election. As it should have been.

It's about having clear information, not cherry picking what gatekeepers deem important for the unwashed masses to know.

What election? He was president at the time. It should have been a factor in his impeachment and following prosecution and imprisonment.
Instead it was thoroughly suppressed and 9 out of 10 conservatives idiotically believe to this day that Russia affair was a hoax.

But there is no cover up.

There was one.
But that's over with.

I get that the whole point of this is to resuscitate it as if there is one now.
Notice how carefully the CNN piece buries the revelation that he came clean in 2018.

Like I said, this mostly looks like a sign of desperation.
They floated this the first day, but thought other lines of attack were more promising.
That they are going back to this one (although with the refinement of "he denied it in 2006!") shows they aren't getting hits on him with the stuff they thought would work and so are trying things they already thought wouldn't work that well hoping for a lucky break. Maybe the new spin will work with the MSM pushing it for them.

I doubt it will last long as a story, though.

You poor poor soul. Do you think he is that weak a candidate? That he can't weather this? So Invested in something you say no one should be.

By 2020 bill Barrs lie became a gods honest truth to the unwashed masses and Trump would with his trade mark impudence repeatedly use “Russia Russia Russia” as an example of bullshit persecution and witch-hunt.
again, 9 out of 10 conservatives don’t believe in that obstruction to this day

After the release of the redacted report on April 18, 2019, Barr's letter was criticized as a deliberate mischaracterization of the Mueller Report and its conclusions, and as an attempt at spinning the media narrative to undermine Mueller's investigation.[2][3] In March 2020, a federal judge sharply criticized Barr's characterizations and ordered the Justice Department to provide him the redacted portions from the public version of the report so he could determine if they were justified.

Well...after a fake dossier people were skeptical. Naturally. Cry wolf too many times and all that.

But you are proving my point. Clear Information may have made a difference right? How is this different?

It's pure desperation mode at this time. They have absolutely nothing to campaign on. As if people are going to vote for a convicted felon who was proven in court to be a sexual predator and fraudster who is also up on nearly 60 more felonies. Trying to play that card is idiocy, but so is having a leader with the worst jobs record in 80 years, 91 felonies and being found in court to have committed sexual battery and several frauds. It's like comparing somebody who got caught excessively speeding with Jeffrey dahlmer

Let's meet vice presidential nominee Tim Walz: 1995 DUI Arrest - Walz claims he was not drunk and blamed a misunderstanding with police on his deafness, despite actually doing 96 mph in a 55-mph and blowing a .128 BAC BLM Riots - Waited three days to call in the National Guard as Minneapolis burned COVID Lockdowns - Aggressively locked down the state and created a hotline for neighbors to rat on one another Pandemic Fraud - More than 400 Million taxpayer dollars fraudulently paid out as unemployment benefits

How is a VP candidate who drove drunk 30 years ago different from a presidential candidate who has been criming all his life (and not misdemeanour DUIs but frauds annd sex assaults) and lately has also been sucking Putin’s cock in public on multiple occasions?
