What ever it was, it was massive and probably unnecessary. But, Trump is good at one thing, and that is the optics of him being a victim/martyr.
I should also say, just for clarity and what not, I do think there was a legit assassination attempt. The secret service and local cops dropped the ball. Trump was likely an inch away from a Kennedy haircut. He did not fake the blood or the threat.
