Good Sunday morning my peeps. I had the honor of seeing Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds in concert at Casino Niagara this past Friday. It was special. Brought me back to my youth. At 66 (Wikipedia says 65) he still sounded great. What I loved about the concert, despite the great music, was his personal interaction with the audience. He never let his fame and success go to his head, he came across as that simple boy growing up with his brothers in Indianapolis, IA.

The opening number was this gem, "Every Time I Close My Eyes" featuring Mariah Carey on background vocals. From 1996 LP 'The Day'

He did "Never Keeping Secrets" next. From my favorite Babyface album 'For the Cool in You' in 1993

From 1989's 'Tender Lover' this was a big jam for him. "Whip Appeal"

And then when he did this number the 5,000 strong crowd went mental. Before he went solo he was a part of the group The Deele, along with his long time partner L.A. Reid. This is 1987's "Two Occasions" which went to #5 on the Hot 100.
"Cause every time I close my eyes I think of you
And no matter what the season is I still love you
With all my heart
I wanna be with you wherever you are"

He also did a medley of many of the hit songs he wrote and/or produced for other artists. Whitney Houston. Boys II Men. New Edition. Bobby Brown. Johnny Gill. TLC. The Whispers. Toni Braxton. Tevin Campbell. And of course for his brothers' group After 7.
