Hi guys

I am thinking of getting a burner phone. What are my options, particularly if I don’t want to use my id?

Thanks

4 days ago, got a simcard from The Dollar Store for $4, activated, had a choice between $15/month (100 minutes) and $25/month (unlimited minutes). Provided fake name, fake addresses, provided VISA gift card # for renewal. Similar process from TELUS (assigned koodoo), didn't have to provide ID. All this assumes you already have a phone of course.

Can we separate phones from the service plan? Over the years I have de-activated an iPhone5 and an iPhone 6...they served well for many years and they still function in a limited capacity, but they're sitting on a shelf. Many people have old phones sitting on a shelf or you can buy one cheap on FB marketplace.

7-11 has basic text/phone Sim cards for as low as $25 that expire after one year. You can pay with cash...no ID required, and you set up on the account on line with a dummy email address.

For me, the above is the best "burner phone" option.

Yup, this is exactly what I do. Simcards are simcards.

Another vote for 7-11.

All cash. What I like about it is that the time only expires after 1 year. You just buy time as you need it. It's not a monthly bill.

But that said, a burner offers you some anonymity, but don't think that if you do something that attracts the attention of LE that they won't find you. I'm sure that the phone will have some sort of serial number which will be known to the telecom compnay every time you use the phone and it it's an "old phone" that used to be your day to day driver, well, that phone and all of it's numbers all tie you to the phone.. When you use your old phone, the teleco will track the phone number, the sim card number, the phone ID number and probably 5 other numbers all at the same time with every call. And if so if you're using a phone that was somehow linked to you, well, so much for anonymity. In addition, if they have the numbers, they can locate the phone (easily) and therefore, locate you. Probably don't even need a battery in it and they will be able to locate the phone. Like a glorified air tag and they will even know where you've been and where you've used in the past.

At best, a burner phone is great for when you want to send or receive calls where you aren't doing anything illegal (shall we say), but you just don't want whoever to be able to have your day to day phone number.

uhh....WHY would LE be interested in me seeing MPs/Escorts? They are not. This is not the US. The concern here is for spouses or girlfriends.

If you're concerned about LE going through the effort to track you down via your phone, I think you're on the wrong website or seeing people that you shouldn't be.....

Why do a phone when you can just get Sideline and use it online (on a laptop) or install only when you need it?

EXACTLY! Creature of habit. Although many places want a real phone number to book appointments and thus burner phone. I'm sure there is a way to somehow tell (?).

I don't think he was necessarily talking about SW's. I think he meant drug dealing or whatever. I think he's just saying in general it's not like LE can't trace them.

I have a burner app on my phone. Hasn't bothered DD, HPL, TDL, ASB, even though they say they won't respond to texting apps. Hahaha
The icon is on a back tab and locked by passcode. SO has never found it and if she does I'll say app came with the phone and I don't know how to unlock it. Saves carrying and swapping out sim cards. App costs $7 and change per month.
If the app costs $7, I assume it is charged to your credit card.
Therefore a paper trail exists. Maybe not one you're worried about, but OP might be.
