I agree that China has certain structural problems but they take a long term view and they are not constrained to the same extent by politics and polarization.

Canada is a technically sophisticated first world economy tightly linked to the largest economy in the world. Canada has many issues, none fatal.
China possess much of the rare earth metals necessary for EV batteries, semiconductors, micro and nano technologies and robotics which Japan depends on as do other countries like Taiwan,the EU and American. China often leverages this dependence on nations, especially Japan. China lacks many skills but hedges with their many assets and is essentially America’s banker holding over a trillion dollars in the US reserve. The US depends on China to keep on making deposits.
Italy is a sort of basket case economy with frequent collapsing governments.
The long term view is the scary view, there won’t be enough people to keep the economy growing and support an aging population.
The yellow in the below demographic graph are the 100,000,000 china admits to over reporting. The most recent revision was 5yr olds behind half of 10yr olds.

Many, if not most emerging economies are strategically linked to China, while also rejecting US and Euro influences.
I agree with the demographics etc. and the structural problems it creates but China is in the very early innings of transforming itself onto a more consumer driven economy. Will they be successful? Time will tell.
A basket case economy, is that why the mechanics of Porsche are designed in Torino? Italians also prefer to travel by train than by air, their train network will soon reach Copenhagen. You must be confusing Italy with Brexit UK.

To transform yourself into a consumer economy you need…. Consumers. They won’t have them, that’s the real issue. 20s-40s work and spend money buying houses, having kids… and drive and economy - they will be missing. There will however be plenty of really old people who need to be taken care of.

Reversing the one child policy won't be easy. A grand son who has to take care of 2 parents + 4 grand parents will not have many kids.
You underestimate the ability of the government to influence economic and social policy.
Italy has significant manufacturing prowess and engineering skills but also significant GDP problems, historically unstable governments , ultra high youth unemployment for those under 30 and so much junk bonds.
To add 3) They have began teaching Mandarin in Africa and have a growing exchange student program. They have plans to fill in gaps.

I’d say the US, EU, Japan, India, Australia, South Korea represent a pretty significant market of countries currently looking to contain China.
