It does sound silly, but the US Army/Navy are actually using these (slightly modified) controllers for machinery these days. Although, I don't believe they're using them to control submarines and the like.

And to what end do they go there for? It soon gets black dark and you get to peer though a small window when they turn on lights for an hour, I just do not get it. Outerspace tourism I understand as it must be spiritual but not the ocean bottom where it is inky black and the titanic looks like other shipwrecks but it happens to be famous

They probably got delirious and started killing one another. I saw where they have to try to barely breath to try to conserve oxygen. Plus the stench would be awful. They're toast.

This seems a little crazy that anyone

A simple tether ffs to the launch ship...if all else fails they can at least winch you up

A tether 12000 feet long, that can take the stress, along with a ship with winch that could do it that could get to that location within 3 days, ok lol. Seems plausible.

Yes ...doable but cost of support ship to handle the tether?...hmmm

What is the likelihood of winning something like that? Apparently it said death multiple times on the front page. Same as a standard OR consent form.

I believe an Oceangate employee was fired for identifying safety problems with the vessel. If that turns out to be true and those same safety problems are found to have caused this disaster then I don’t think the release forms will protect Oceangate because they were signed under fraudulent circumstances.

If, on the other hand, it turns out that the submersible somehow got stuck in the debris of the Titanic then I think you are probably right as that would have been a reasonably foreseeable risk that the passengers consented to.

I’m not a lawyer but that would be my guess.

I guess that also begs the question - how do you find out what happened with the sun to investigate and how much has already been “lost” in Oceangate’s records?
