Which NHL goalie holds the record for fastest goal given up in his very first NHL game?
ANSWER: Paul Skidmore. On December 20, 1981 the Winnipeg Jets played the St. Louis Blues in Winnipeg, with Skidmore in net for the Blues. The opening face off was won by the Blues and the puck went back to defenceman Ed Kea. Unfortuntely, Kea slipped and fell giving Winnipeg forward Doug Smail a clear path to the puck and Skidmore. Smail would score with only 5 seconds elapsed in the game, tying the NHL record for fastest goal at the beginning of a game. Since it was Skidmore's first NHL game he unfortunately set the record for fastest goal given up by a goalie to start his career.
For those of you who are old geezers like me, as Paul Harvey used to say "now you know, the rest of the story".
