Working out twice a week to stay RIPPED

To stay ripped your diet is number 1 followed by training, which in my opinion 2 days a week isn't enough. Unless of course, you're doing gear (which 2 days a week would still not be enough), then the formula changes a tad.

Diet has more to do with being ripped than working out.
This guy isn't working out 2 times a week and scarfing pizza and beer 2-3/week.

Correct people assume things. I dont drink alcohol and I make sure I walk at least 10,000 steps a day. For everyone who thinks you cant workout twice a week you are WRONG.

I weighed around 160lbs and could do these bent over rows with 135lbs! This is in my late 20's.

Some of the stuff I'm reading in this thread are hilarious.

1) You cannot work out six or seven times a week unless you're on the juice. Less is more.

2) Diet is hugely important.

3) If you build your body which will take a few years maybe two or three, then you don't need a great deal to maintain it work out wise, but your diet still has to be pretty good...

Depends on what you are happy with. 2 days a week each body part yes but that means you're doing a full body workout twice a week. It can work if your diet is on point and you're in a calorie deficit and have great genes.

I weigh 170 and do more than 135 at over 40 and yes, I train 6 times a week and no, I'm not on gear.

Single arm bent over row with more than 135? Wow, I'm impressed...and a little jealous.

Everyone is a little different and you need to know your body. 6 days/week for me is called...overtraining...

I wasn't sure and was going to mention that not a lot of gyms have dumbbells over 120...I was a student at Queens and their gym had 135s...did about 2-3 reps with not exactly the perfect form...a little yanking was involved lol...ahh...to be young...

I have to say, good for you! As was already said, diet is extremely important, unless you have the metabolism of a squirrel.....

Squirrels don't eat at McDonalds either. I never notice them outside the restaurant battling a seagull for a french fry......

Don't forget the oil, lots of that to get that big, unless you're lucky enough to have a mesomorph body type, then you won the genetics lottery and congrats.

If you're walking 5 miles per day, some might consider that a light daily cardio workout, since most people don't do anywhere near that amount of walking daily.

Yes, if you eat like a rabbit on top of the workouts, you'll end up with low body fat. Hard to maintain but it can be done. Everyone decides the qualify of life they want.

Abs are made in the kitchen.
Also in the strongman world, abs mean you are not eating enough.

If there is one thing I learned over the years is that everyone's body is different. What works for one person wont necessarily and most likely wont works for you. These influencers you see online are genetically gifted people. Doing weights twice a week for me would do nothing, have tried it many times during busy times at work, for me it resulted in a quick decline in my lifts, for me to actually see gains in my lifting i have to lift minimum 4 times a week, preferably 5. Also I noticed doing 15k steps a day was the point where I started to lose weight not 10k.

I agree... Body type (ectomorph mesomorph, endomorph) resting metabolic rate/metabolism in general, and age play a big role in what we can do with our bodies and how often...Then there are lifestyle choices and work commitments which often get in the way...Working out and fitness is way more individualized than people realize... Of course, it's very hard to monetize an "individual" approach...I've come to believe that trial and error helps in reaching clarity.

The OP has tremendous form in the exercises he shows in this thread.

It's not how much you can lift but how you lift it. Saves your joints excess wear and tear plus reduces the chances of injury as well.

Eons ago I used to train 3 days on 1 day off. Hitting each body part twice a week. About 2 hrs a workout. High carbs was they way we were told to go.

Can't tell you how much brown rice and pasta I've eaten in my life, lol. We regularly consumed these Carbo Power drinks after a training session.

The drinks were comprised of maltodextrin. So in this case corn syrup. Man you couldn't eat worse if you tried looking back on it.

And tuna. Used to buy it in bulk. A case at a time. That's a lot of mercury. Tested off the charts years latter. No wonder.

So I massively over trained and ate terribly, lol. But that was the mantra.

That's what the comic books or shall I say muscle magazines espoused so that's what we did. Then there was the Weider Training Principles......

Today we know different. Nutrition is for most people about 70% of the game. The main thing is to not over train. The days of the two hour workouts are over. Once your adrenals start flooding your system with cortisol you are in a catabolic state. And that ain't good.

Everybody will respond different to training There's no sure fire way that is universal. It's all trial and error. My favourite lift was deadlifts. Used to hit the old Monster Gym off Ronson at 3 in the morning for a session with a buddy of mine. Was one of the first gyms that was open 24 hours. Good times. Didn't give much thought to circadian rhythms in those days, lol. Oh and the dumbells went up to 200lb's at Monster.Saw A guy doing overhead dumbell presses with the 160's once. He had two guys hand them to him with much difficulty I might add. Neck harnesses were a thing then as well. My friends and I were all trying to get that 20 inch neck......Never heard of sleep apnea till much later.

I was a huge Vic Tanny groupie, also tossed medicine balls, absorbed cannonballs with my gut, boxed quite a few kangaroos, ate wheat germ and Wheaties drenched in cod liver oil.
