The President of Pearson Airport is an American woman from Chicago. Deborah Flint. How is it possible that she is never mentioned in or approached by the
media. The disaster that is her airport is known worldwide. No accountability, just a fat pay check. Typical Canadian situation....

Sorry man.
I have a trip for late Oct so we might be in the same boat.
Late Oct will be better if only because its slow travel season. And they will have had some time to get some staff trained up.

Mid July, Peak Season? Sorry to that dude.

I have a trip late June. I’ll report back. From my flight attendant friends they said the root cause is simply they didn’t (or can’t) hire back the people they laid off. Or not willing to. I smell someone making big profit at the cost of everyone else. This is not Covid related.

This problem is nothing new, though it sounds worse than ever.

Pre covid I was flying thru Pearson at least once a month. It was almost always a shit show. From the baggage check, to security (especially) to baggage claim, everything took way too long.

Simply put, there were never enough people working there. Ever.

Security was the worst. You'd be in the rat maze and it would be massive and you'd get up to the front of the line and they'd have only 2 or 3 (max) doors open. (If I recall, they have 10 doors.). I would always get angry. And it never helped how slow the lines were due to the passengers being so unorganized.

Baggage check was the same. Air Canada has these huge long counters with 16 check-ins and 2 of them would be staffed.

Here's a dumb idea......

Hire more staff. Pay more to attract people.

But they don't want to. They just want to work the shit out of people. Unless the gov't comes down on them, nothing is going to change.

That is what they are saying is the problem. They are short staffed. I don’t know why or what the problem is with hiring/keeping staff but this has been a growing issue for a few years now and just keeps getting worse.

Add, as you said, unorganized flyers and COVID measures and you have an even bigger shit show.

YYZ is Canada's primary gateway to the world and this is embarrassing. This could possibly impact investment in Canada.

Even before the pandemic I held the view that YYZ is one of the worst major airports in the world, and it is the one that I have used the most times (many more times than any other). Not enough staff, rude staff, poor wayfinding, inefficient internal layout etc.

Pearson YYZ in huge delays again still - fixed the headline. Similar to Mr. Kirk, I was flying in 2021 and it was a shitshow then too. Sadly, more reactionary behavior by people that are supposed to be leaders.

100%.
Travel anywhere in the world and you will see how poorly designed and used YYZ is.

It’s a shot show with no accountability. Fucking hate it and AC.

The simple task of collecting a bag and leaving the airport is frustrating.
The monitors say Flight xxxx Carousel #5. go and wait there for 45 minutes and there are no bags.
Check the monitor again and it says Flight xxxx Carousel #7
After an hour plus you collect you bag and leave.
The friend who came to pick me up had to pay extra for parking and also waste his time.
Third world country operations, definitely not to international standards. Embarrassing is a polite word.

Came back from vacation two days ago. My departing flight was changed 3 times this month. From an afternoon flight to an early morning flight. But guess what? This happened to many other flights as well. So of course this caused a big pile up of people. Customs security doesn’t open until 4:30 am so the line up built up to a ridiculous amount of people. All of whom have early flights.

then on my arrival we had to wait in the plane on the tarmac for over an hour because Canadian customs was overwhelmed and would no allow the plane come to the airport and off board us.

a big part of this issue is that airline companies like air Canada are scheduling too many flights around the same time. I agree with what John Tory said.
