IDK, a pistol is far more handy in a close-in melee.
Pistol has its place but They don’t have the stopping power of a rifle if you’re wearing soft body armor pistols not going to penetrate it (in most cases)

One of the reasons the US Army switched to the M4 is 14 1/2 inch barrel rifle is far more handy than a 20 inch barrel while Still maintaining the accuracy and range the army wanted

But for US civilians any rifle under 16 inch barrel requires a tax Stamp and falls into the NFA weapons so most guys just stick with 16 inches or longer the standard in the AR was 20 inch barrel

Pretty easy to grab at though and clumsy to swing around. Although KR did okay on the night in question.
He did a lot better than OK. He was always aware of his surroundings, his rifle followed his vision and he never lost the hold on the weapon and at all times he was ready to hit the target at a fraction of a second. Had he not kept his head, the whole situation could have been a real blood bath- he had the skill for that. He did everything the old British para thought us about close quarters clusterfucks- except fixing the bayonet.

This kid was in over his head...he was scared about getting beat up and lost his cool and turned it into a blood bath...having said that, he'll probably be found not guilty of the more serious charges.

I disagree he kept his cool and defended himself against 3 attackers he injured no bystanders.

I do agree he will get off as he had the right to defend himself and so far the evidence shows he was legally defending himself.

He didn't keep his cool on the stand, unless that was an act...he shouldn't have been there...he was too scared to cry when he was shooting people.

It is debatable wither he used appropriate force, a guy following you and another throwing a bag at you don't deserve to be shot...the prosecution may say that they were grabbing at his gun because he was an active shooter and they were trying to stop him from shooting more people.

Ever notice how gun enthusiasts get bogged down in technical minutia? Every mass killing there will be somebody pointing out exactly which variation of the weapon was used.

That's you here. And missing the point

My Father (retired US Military Vet - R.I.P.) always said exactly the same thing. Gun enthusiasts will bend over backwards in their very desperate attempt to to have their viewpoint validated. Overly cerebral, technical jargon and an abundance of statistics. They "want" to have a gun, he would say, they don't "need" one, it's pure selfishness of ego and insecurities.

He always pointed out that most of these guys have never had a gun pushed into their skulls praying/wondering if they would be alive in the next five seconds or not. He never, ever wanted a gun within the household.

They make an argument that knives kill more people full well knowing a knife's primary function is for cooking, not killing. They also make argument that cars kill more people full well knowing a car's primary function is transportation.

To say that a gun's purpose is only to fire a projectile is ignorance and denial beyond the pale. That it depends upon the user what it's used for. It's naive and dangerous to think so. Hence the horrendous current state of affairs.

please provide your evidence of a gun loading itself aiming it self and firing itself

I won’t wait because a gun being a mechanical device cannot operate without a human just as no gun has been charged with murder because it’s the person not the object that choose To kill

Served two years in Iraq US military three-year service had plenty of guns pointed and fired at me

He kept his cool when he was getting grilled by the prosecutor........That's the important part.

You forgot to mention that behind the bag throwing Rosenbaum was another chaser who did fire a shot. KR didn't know who fired that shot only that it came from behind him. Also Rosenbaum had threatened to kill him earlier in the night.

There is no evidence that a shot was fired at Rittenhouse...the guy Rosenbaum told several people he has going to rip out their heart several hours earlier.

He shouldn't have been there, he's roaming around with an AR15 playing laser tag, he got in over his head...he was qualified or mature to do that kind of work, maybe the people that convinced and encouraged him to be there, got him a gun and drove him there should be accountable.

the first guy the evidence has show threatened to kill kyle earlier and attempted to take the rifle from him that justifies force

second and third guys were chasing him he was hit with a skateboard which at that point was a weapon capable of causing serious injury or death kyles response was self defense. the guy wounded was NOT shot UNTILL he pointed his pistol at kyle which is self defense, wounded guy has admitted to such on the stand

here in America a free country you don't get to decide where someone should or shouldn't be in public areas, that state is also and open carry state carrying a firearm openly is 100% permitted yes kyle was under 18 making it a misdemeanor which is a fine IIRC

FYI the guy wounded was carrying a concealed pistol but his permit was expired also a misdemeanor and a fine

at least 38 states already allow open carry and a few more will allow it shortly

most states allow ccw with some restrictions such as requirement to be a resident of that state

I suspect that if you tally up all the harm done by misused cars and misused alcohol you'd find it significantly outweighs the number of people who have been shot.
Not to sound callous, but a great many gun deaths also happen to people engaging in very violent, illegal activities.
