Looks like the law will apply to MPs (although not explicitly listed as such):

* Strip clubs, bath houses and sex clubs.

As of Sep 22, have to show the 2 dose receipt, as of Oct 22, must have the QR code either printed out or on a smartphone.

Interestingly, employees are exempt.

I'd assume that they leave that up to employers to mandate vaccination, or not.

Hmmm so if I have some kind of vaccine card, and I go to a spa or stripclub that means when they scan my card with the QC reader, the spa or stripclub will know my real name and personal info? (Logically they will have to compare the name on the ID card to the name on my drivers license). Also that means if I enter a spa or stripclub the government knows I was there too. I don’t like it.

We’re screwed, fear has made people lose their senses. First we needed 70% vax for heard immunity, now it seems like they need everyone vax, now they need ID cards, why don’t they work on a better vaccine? It seems like they are content with a vaccine that can’t cure or prevent covid from spreading and now they just want to focus on controlling people. I smell BS

Do you really believe they are not in the process of tweaking the vaccines to account for the variants? Just like they tweak the flu shot every year. This is a global health emergency.
Look at Florida and Texas and the numbers going crazy because they are lax in vaxxing and masking rules. The US has been once again taken off travel lists by the EU. This is not what we want for Canada. I hope we can get through the winter without more lockdowns but that will depend on the population doing it's part.

Actually, that privacy issue is exactly what the QR code is for.

Starting Sep 22 you are supposed to show the receipt and ID (so your concern is valid), but the QR code will be issued to you and once scanned (establishments can download a scanning app) it will only show "valid" or not. No identifiable information is transmitted (or that's the plan anyway - rushed rollouts aren't always the most secure).

So more or less it will be like the ticketing guys on GO trains - come around, tap your Presto card (or scan a code in this case), and get a yea or nay.

And like with the ticketing guys on GO trains, anyone who gets a nay will likely raise a fuss.

I still feel like the government will know where you are because you have to scan to get in. Say there’s an outbreak somewhere you visited, will health Canada call your house and there was an outbreak at so so place and your husband was there etc. I don’t like it.

I feel like I must be missing a key piece of info.

Until the QR code system is in place, an MP will ask for your vaccine receipt and a piece of government ID, presumably photo, to ensure they match. Sounds simple enough for a good citizen, or a miscreant.

When we then move to the QR code, how does an MP (or restaurant, or bar) verify that you are the person the presented QR code ‘belongs’ to?

I like feeling safe.
These are measures to keep us safe, including children who can't be vaccinated yet.

I gather contract tracers are quite discreet. In fact, they're so discreet that a friend of mine had troubles understanding where she was exposed.

I've been wondering the same, and I've been trying to find the answer to this question all morning.
Like, what if a person who is not vaccinated borrows a friend's phone who is vaccinated?

So they will ask for proof of vaccine to go into a stripclub, a massage parlour, a theatre, but not a bank or grocery store, or barber shop. It’s either you go all the way or you don’t do it at all, picking and choosing certain businesses will not solve anything. Deep down I think this is about surveillance not safety. There’s still going to be outbreaks at these places where you have to show ID, and then what’s next? Medicine, as in a real vaccine, a cure for covid is what’s needed not technology.

Exactly, you will still have to show ID to cross reference. Don’t be fooled.

Meh, that's fine.
If the system works, it's going to reduce the chances of an exposure and thus reduce the chance of your household ever getting that phone call.

I'm more worried about contracting covid19 than being caught for partaking in the hobby. Though, either scenario would be life altering and devastating. I'm relieved this passport is happening. When I first read "dine indoors at restaurants and go to gyms and theatres" my first thought was, 'oh shit, what about massage parlours???'. When I later read "strip clubs, bath houses and sex clubs" I literally gasped with joy. (ha, and my wife was in the same room, oops!).
Hell, I might even go to the Rail! I wasn't sure I'd ever feel safe enough to return. Now I might!

I hope these are questions that whoever is in charge of this is trying to work out. Because realistically the majority of people are going to comply with whatever. And the minority of people who refuse to comply or are unvaccinated will not use the system, and in terms of how the passport works that would also be a non-issue.

So I hope they figure out how to catch the people that try to game the system, because it won't be as simple as noticing that your card says that you got a shot of "Maderna".

No, you won't. That's the point of the QR code - privacy without having to double ID. Makes it a lot faster at, say, a Raptors game - scan ticket, scan QR (of course, for people with both on their phones, there will inevitably be delays caused by people who don't have both ready and can't readily flip between the two).

But, yes, it would be quite easy to fake, even without the phone. For people without phones, you can print the sheet with the QR code, so I could get my vaccinated buddy to print his and just flash that for the spa to scan.

And if none of your vaccinated friends will do that, you could always print your SO's and use that o_O
