What’s the border situation?

Ottawa is a vast wasteland of service providers. All the clubs are closed, LL is full of fakes, and the ones that are not are charging north of $400 for an hour. I like to have fun, but if it means the difference between getting off and covering my car insurance for the month, well you know what is the first to go.

I‘m missing seeing some of my regulars across the bridge. What’s the situation with the border crossing into Quebec right now? Are all cars checked and must show proof that they’re crossing for essential reasons? Is seeing my sex therapist a good enough excuse ?

You have nothing to be worried about.
They don't check you going to Quebec.
And it's not like they won't let you come back home.
In fact they just wave in the Ontario plates back in.
That's if there are even there, I haven't seen them in my last 3 trip.
The summary is you have the 💚🍏 green light

Really huh? Interesting. I thought it was a total shut down of Ontario plates. Hmm....
Bridge checkpoints may increase as QC changes curfew and business restrictions on Monday. The premier has already mentioned taking steps to limit Ontarions coming into Gatineau for shopping.

I hear from coworkers with Ontario plates spending the lockdown in their Gatineau cottages, that they get hassled by Quebec police when they come back from Ottawa. Others mentioned that the level of hassle changes through the day (i.e. is easier to claim you are crossing for work or an appointment at 2:00 p.m. than at 8:00 p.m.). Most are not travelling much, so I would think enforcement is inconsistent if others are not reporting hassles. I guess it depends how Ontarian you and your car look, and where and at what time you are there.

i rode over there tonight around 730pm to see what would happen, and luckily did not have any issues.
not much traffic at that time - making an ontario plate more noticeable - to a cop who might be motivated to make a point.

Clearly, Ford's calls for higher border restrictions is just blowing hot air and political postering.

Ford wants Gestapo-type enforcement on borders.
Yes there is abolutely no difference between what Ford wants at the borders and the Gestapo. No difference what so ever.
I would continue but I subbed my toe which is just like a 5 year old having stage 4 cancer.

I tried to ho on the weekend. Was stopped by QC police and told to go home as my business was not essential. No fine but clearly the authorities are watching

Just this morning they were on the Island Park Bridge and the day before on the Portage Bridge. Some days nothing. These were the Gatineau police not Ottawa police. It seems to be hit and miss.

Ottawa
Checkpoints definitely still going on on both Gatineau and Ottawa sides.
Both Ottawa police and Gatineau police told CTV News Ottawa that officers will continue random checkpoints at the five bridges and ferry crossings to limit non-essential trips until the Ontario and Quebec governments issue new directives for travel.

Hi all, I thought I would see what recent experiences are like. I have an appointment in gatineau Friday and would like any tips for getting across to Quebec. Do I need proof that I have an appointment?

Gatineau is completely open now, no more curfews or anything.

Gatineau may be open but as an Ontario resident you may not be served in a bar or restaurant. Was to meet a buddy at bar up on Palteau and he phoned the manager and was told that they are asking for ID and can only serve Quebec residents. Now not all places will follow the law to the letter but be prepared.

Yes harassment of Ontario plates is happening. A colleague of mine owns places up at Tremblant and has been pulled over multiple times... You are allowed to travel to do work on your property but its a pain to go through the hassel

I never go to Gatineau anymore unless it is unavoidable. Went over 2 years ago to visit a friend and got pulled over twice in the span of 30 minutes. Wanted to check the tinting on my windows. Only the back side and back windows are tinted (factory) and not all that dark, so they mumbled something about don't think about tinting the front side windows or you will get a fine. That was the last time I ventured across.
