I watched last night. To me, it started off as a rant against the (big) city dwellers and elitists who can't be bothered to wear a poppy, then delved into the "danger-zone" with his inference to immigrants. Unfortunately, he's correct on both counts... He lives in Mississauga and that IS what you see. The lack of poppy wearing is quite noticeable this year.

For all his warts and hockey opinion, Don Cherry is a true Canadian patriot and die-hard military supporter. He is beloved because of this.

Instead of trying to see him fired, people should respond by buying a poppy.
Bullied into buying a poppy? LOL

Or else what? I'll gladly walk by his bigoted arse not wearing one.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. It's always nice to note those who are in that club.

While i'm not a fan boy of Don Cherry. Don says the same thing every year about veterans and buying poppies since 1982 on HNIC. Why is this even being talked about. Oh yeah we are in the world of social media now.
Did you actually listen to what he said? This has nothing to do with social media. Just the hate in his heart and mind flowing out. The guy beside him was staring quietly, and nervously, waiting for an epithet to slip out. Only the dog whistle made it out this time.

"Between 1950 and 1956, over 25,000 Canadians served in Korea, and 516 died."

No doubt Koreans in Canada give generously to the Poppy Fund and proudly wear the poppy in eternal gratitude for Canada's role in protecting them from the commies. Yes? No? Maybe?

BTW: The movie about the famous WW II battle at Midway debut this weekend and led in gate receipt.

Let us know when you find out. The UK was recently busy deporting the Windrush generation who went over to help rebuild their country. If I remember correctly, the Home Secretary (Amber Rudd, I believe) there resigned in shame.

Not politically correct but right. Don Cherry is right he could've said in a nicer way but he's right. Few years back Muslims were burning poppies in the UK.

.as for Cherry, he hasn't been relevant for years, and Rogers lack the spine to get rid of him
So this is blatantly wrong. Still has a huge following and one of the highest paid people at CBC. They don't have the spine to fire him because he brings in the ratings.

He's getting great support from the comments down below on Youtube as well as Face Book.
From the same people who post supportive comments on racist YouTube videos from the Fox, The Blaze, Tomi Lahren and such? You don't say. News flash: We have bigots in Canada as well. Maybe they're in those "small cities" Donnie boy is talking about.

If we're using the poppy as a purity test for who is or isn't respectful, then I think we're missing the point of Remembrance Day.

I remember my grandmother telling me stories of the fears of German U- boats patrolling the waters off the coast of Nova Scotia and the invasion that may come with it

In another timeline, North America is speaking German and living a VERY different life.

Don was very, very ignorant in his choice of words. Many, Many Canadians give no pause on the 11th day, 11th hour. It is a CANADIAN problem(Don't get me started on the fucking stores who have their Christmas stuff out already).I would suspect immigrants of the last 30 years DO wear poppies less out of a simple lack of awareness due to the horrors of war being in the rear view mirror of Canada's history, both in class rooms and society. Not all, but many.

Countries who do not remember their history, are destined to repeat it.

Yah, I saw coaches corner and he does it every year. He singles out people. Shouldn't be a surprise. He also made racist comments on French and European players in the past. Old news if you watch HNIC every Sat night for 30 years.

Don Cherry is an irrelevant alcoholic hack.
The sacrifices that our veterans made allow us the freedom to choose to wear, or not wear a poppy.
