Why is Israel not expected to comply with UN Resolution 242?

Well then I guess we agree! Maybe we can work together on this?
Agreed on what? You want to gas them, Iran wants to nuke them. I just want to sell Gaza to Hong Kong Chinese - peace and prosperity for Israel and Chinese Gaza. How about shipping all the Palestinians to Quebec, since no country in the Middle East wants them?

Why don’t you just go back where you came from and fix things there instead of telling us what to think?

Because, where I came from, things are well in hand. Hence, it's really immaterial what you think.

You know what, as a Jew, I lament about when the Arab-Jewish subject comes up? The complete loss of reasoning and the return to the most basic human emotions, like hate. Along the line of your(not very original) comment. I was the biggest fun of the Israel's withdrawal from Gaza. I thought that the Arabs would use the self government and world's good will to build the civil society that would lead to a land for peace deal and the end of the conflict. That's not what happened. The Arabs took the withdrawal as a sign of weakness and opted for Hamas to lead them in the armed struggle. Exactly the same thing will happen if Israel ever ends the oversight of the territories. There's no doubt about that. Rockets, mortars, IEDs from Jericho or Bethlehem or East Jerusalem will become the daily staple on top of the bombardment from Gaza. And the World will just stand and watch Jews dying, as always. And the guys like you and Franky will keep posting from the safety of your couches reminding us how the Jews deserve it for not upholding some UN resolution in particular and being Jews in general.
If I can add my own two cents while this discussion is still reasonable, and before it goes off the deep end.

I'm not Jewish either. I can say though, that Jewish thinking and temperament resonates with me far greater than Arab culture does.
Partly from my own cultural background, partly from my own individual makeup.
With that in mind, and without discounting historical baggage between Israel and Palestinians, it is apparent to me that Israel is and always
has been intent on running Palestinians out, and reclaiming ancient lands. That's always been the long game.
I've done research on both sides, not to the finest details, but enough I feel to justify my own beliefs.
I also distinguish between Israel and Jews, it's one and the same, and it isn't.

My post is not meant to argue that my viewpoint is totally correct or even mostly correct.
My point is that I think can come to my own reasonable conclusion about Israel without having negative bias about Jews.
You're right to say we don't have skin in the game, but there is perspective beyond that also.
There are many Jews, Jewish groups and scholars that share that perspective.
I believe Israel may have an agenda that doesn't reflect many Jews, the same way that the U.S has an agenda that doesn't
reflect many Americans, and ideologies are created for popular support to drive these agendas.

My problem is that this can't be discussed, broached, without accusations of anti Semitism or hate for Jews.
I hate American foreign policy, that means I hate Americans?
And personally, I feel that the more those cards are thrown around the more it confirms my own viewpoint, because it becomes a way
of cutting off reasonable discussion right at the knees and vilifying anyone who doesn't agree.
I'm open to any genuine, reasonable criticism or not on my take.
Any attempt to turn it into a shit show will have no impact on me, trust me.

Do you know why I hold an Israeli passport(among others)? Because I am acutely and accurately aware of history of the Jewish people in general and my own family in particular. The enlightened Jews of France and Germany and Porugal, etc. as today's Jews of the Western Democracies, felt themselves above the tribal affiliations and secured in knowledge the they were the fabric of their societies, equal participants in building the brightest of futures... until they found out how wrong they were. And despite what you read in the media, take it from the one who knows that even the most liberal Jews(as long as they have half a brain) recognise that existance and security of Israel is the ultimate insurance policy for the survival of the Jewish people and it will never be outsourced to anybody. Not to UN or America or any one else that would "guarantee" the survival of the Jewish State. If this conflict with the Palestinian Arabs has to go on for another 200 years, so be it. But, it can only end with the secured Israeli borders and the knowledge that the safety of the Jewish People is assured.

Cool! Then Israel can start surviving on its own fucking dime and stop accepting military and financial support from the US.

ROFLMAO!!! The countries I can go back to, and do visit often, are neither shitholes nor utopian. But, thanks for that very Trumpian advice. It pleases me to no end that his influence rubbs off so pleasantly even on his harshest critics. Cheers!(and I mean it)

Interests like what? Getting American Jews to vote for you in swing states every 4 years? Makes me tingle with patriotism.

Indeed. Telling people to go back where they came from = Winning Every Argument

So easy! Trump is a genius!

Now go back to whatever fucking country it is that produced your ignorant bloodline and stop your whining.

Holy shit! And I thought Horshack getting waylaid by a hot beef knish was bad.

Secular Jews are moving out of Israel in frustration, the Likud Party is controlled by Orthodox Jews who want the restoration of Old Testament Israel. That's why Arial Sharon broke with the party before he had a stroke and fell into a coma.

Rome has the oldest Jewish population, it has become a popular destination for Jews leaving Israel. If you visit the Roman Forum on a Friday night, you can see Jews praying at the Arch of Titus.

Aren't you concerned that Israel's right wing parties are emboldened by Palestinians electing pro-war parties sworn to the destruction of Israel? I'm not an expert on Israeli politics, but I have always thought that a great many of the Israeli electorate want a peaceful compromise. That hope is always dashed by perpetual violence.

There's no such thing as an "Old Testament".

Ok the Jewish Bible. You're nitpicking.
Not at all. It is seen by many as a pejorative term. And the seculars, who are a majority, have nothing to worry about. That's why they keep voting in the more conservative legislators - and NOT because of religion.

I get it.
And as much as you have a right to feel that way, others have a right to feel that there's a lot of injustice going on.
Doesn't mean that people's beliefs are steeped in anti Semitism or hatred.
