As expected, climate change is one of the issues that is going to divide the Democrats.

Joe Biden hasn't formally released his climate change plan yet but his anticipated "middle ground" approach is already being trashed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Naomi Klein and others. "We're not going to solve the climate crisis w/ this lack of leadership," AOC tweeted. "Our kids’ lives are at stake."

At the same time, Biden's plan to bring back some of the Obama regulations is certain to piss off right-wingers and possibly some unions and others.

It looks like Biden's attempt to find a "middle ground" will work about as well as Justin Trudeau's failed "social licence" strategy for pipelines.

This will get interesting.

AOC is probably right...but I don’t think any candidate can win a general election running on her Green New Deal.

Of course AOC won't support a centrist Democratic candidate.

But funny to see the right suddenly caring what she says.

To save the environment the lefties must refrain from procreation. Their pregnency policy should be - have one, kill one. For the climate.

Terrifies? Surely you jest. She makes me laugh my ass off! Dumb as a brick she is. She makes Sarah Palin look like a genius in comparison.

She won with 16k votes!! Her district has over 700k residents. Roughly 2% of the districts population voted for her lol

She's comic relief but she's gonna be gone in a year.

The walk-away guy Brandon Straka is challenging her in 2020 and he'll win.

I wouldn’t be so sure. She is very popular amongst a certain faction of Dems...and many just admire her energy and courage to take what were not long ago considered extreme stands.

She should terrify the supporters of the Democrats.

Her Green New Deal is total insanity. Yet it's providing a basis for attacking Biden and others who are attempting to be at least somewhat rational in their desire to reduce man-made emissions.

She may very well convince a number of potential Democrat voters to stay home on election day.

I've followed her on twitter since she entered Congress. I did so because I give her a ton of credit for upsetting an establishment candidate and for having a strong and appealing (if not amusing) persona. I don't agree with the vast majority of her positions and she does lack substance and rational thought. But she is one of the faces of the new Un Democratic Party and needs to be taken seriously.

She was never going to support him. Betting she throws in for Sanders but not yet. She will wait for closer to the NY primary for the splash.

At 415 ppm CO2, there is now more CO2 in the atmosphere than since humans came to exist, and since the Pliocene Epoch about 3 million years ago, where global temps were 2-3º C warmer than they are now.
During the Pliocene there were trees in the arctic and global sea levels were 25 metres higher.

The thermal inertia of the oceans means that it takes somewhere around 40 years for the full effect of CO2 increases to be felt by the planet. So the approximate 1ºC of warming the planet is experiencing now is from the CO2 put into the atmosphere in the '70's.

Actually, the graphs of temperature anomalies record the 1ºC increase occurring from the late 19th century to now. But you were close. :biggrin1:
As usual, you don't understand.

There is an approximate 40 year lag between putting CO2 in the atmosphere and the atmosphere fully warming up.

Therefore the temperature increases we are experiencing now is from the CO2 we put in the atmosphere 40 years ago and were we to stop putting more CO2 into the atmosphere totally today, there would still be 40 years of global temperature increases to follow. That is because it takes a long time to warm up the oceans.
