Reminds me of the expression ... ' I'm not a racist but ...' I'm sorry but you are by your own definition - a prude. Women can be dressed tastefully ? ... how do you define tastefully ? ... no bare knees in view ? ... ankles should be covered ? ... your boner looking at them stays under 15 degrees ? Can they look sexy ? pretty ? I like beautiful women and putting them in costumes to add yet another layer of fun to any event is great in my mind.

As for sports dress of womens athletes - their clothing is chosen to for freedom of movement to maximise their performance - not to give a woody to the prudes in the audience. Focus on the performance not their clothing style !

As for my sig: This one has set a record for inquiries !
I'm qualifying what I'm saying that's it's not just based on some conservative viewpoint. I love seeing women dressed sexy. And while I think there's many places for it, I think there's a few places it shouldn't happen. Pretty sure nobody would encourage women to wear skimpy clothes to a religious service. Same thing with sports or anything where the person takes focus away from the main attraction/purpose of the event.

I'm sure there's a variety of outfits that women can wear for different sports, all of which are functional and don't restrict movement. Yet some women or some sports involve women who clearly have chosen the sexier outfit. What are they promoting? They do themselves a disservice because now they've sexualized the sport to some degree and even though their fan base may be higher, it's for the wrong reason. I have no idea why any person, man or woman, would ever watch lingerie football and I can't believe enough women choose to play along with the sport to give it life.

Have people seen the slideshows that exist for Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova's tennis outfits? The reason these slideshows exist is because these two choose to wear a variety of outfits that are stylish (not necessarily sexual). You may enjoy it but I personally don't care. If I want to see skimpy outfits I'll watch something or go somewhere that skimpy outfits belong, not sports

I was mainly referring to sports. For example (and I know this isn't a sport) but the Royal Flush Girls on the World Poker Tour. Absolutely unnecessary. I understand certain things where sex is used to sell but in some cases it's not needed. If I attend an event, it's mostly because I'm interested in the event/sport/players, not the "distractions". I certainly enjoy mascots, especially ones that do something comical.
Here's the rub. You enjoy mascots for their comedic value. Comedy has nothing to do with sports. Some people enjoy the grid girls for their aesthetic value. Which also has nothing to do with sports. If both mascots and and grid girls are offering something unrelated to the main event, and are doing so of their own free will, why is one okay and the other not?

I agree.

I was at a Leafs game recently. First time in a LONG LONG time. They kept having gangs of young women (and a few men) skate out during commercials I guess and sweep the ice. The young women were all dressed in low cut tight tops and tight fitting yoga pants. The guys were dressed in shirts, vests and pants. You can't help but notice the stupidity of it all.

I'm the furthest thing from a prude, but somehow it just seemed silly.
Actually for the past several years the ice cleaners were all women.
I say it's a huge improvement over the 'homeless men' they used to have just shovel the ice after a zamboni run.
This year they inserted a few guys with the girls.
The Raptors can have their cheerleaders & that's ok ?
I hope they keep the girl skaters & as far as the uniforms, the tighter ,the better.

I have stated earlier that I am okay with cheerleaders if they do whatever to pump up the crowd. I have been to plenty of events where the cheerleaders were not dressed provocatively, they danced, they got the crowd moving - no problem. So I place Mascots into this category. And there's also a number of breaks/intermissions in sporting events and if you don't need to go to the bathroom or stock up on food/drink, you wait so I appreciate the entertainment these things provide.

What do the pit stop girls do? Nothing. What do the Royal Flush Girls do? Nothing. They are simply using sex to sell and IMO it's not needed. Now, I don't turn away, get all offended when it does happen. But I'm not going to cry if they disappear either because they are more of a distraction versus an enhancement.

Let's just agree to disagree. You think they add value, I don't. Don't think there's a right answer.

When I hear this I'm thinking where are all the feminists who should be arguing this issue over the ones who pushed for the anthem change? Most people that effect change pick and choose battles.

A backlash has started after F1 grid girls and darts walk-on women were consigned to history. Former grid girl, model and Presidents Club host Rachel Reid has hit out at ‘well off’ and ‘middle class’ women who she believes are behind the demise of the industry.

Miss Reid, who has spent the last 21 years working across several industries, believes the axing of women from darts and F1 is already having a knock-on effect. She said: ‘It starts with the F1 and darts but that is just the tip of the iceberg, women are losing bookings for all kind of jobs now, from motorcycle shows to exhibitions at the NEC. ‘What is so sad is there is so little work out there anyway, the sector still has not recovered from 2008, the economy is awful and now through no fault of their own women in these industries are going to find it even harder to work.

‘For so-called feminists to be taking jobs from fellow women is so wrong, we have had years of men causing women trouble, now it is women attacking other women’s livelihoods.’ And Miss Reid believes there is a class aspect to this latest raft of controversies around women’s jobs.

She said: ‘It seems to be well off, if not privately educated then certainly middle class women, mostly based in London telling working class women, many of whom are single parents in the provinces what they can and can’t do.’ Miss Reid will be attending a protest at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre on Saturday which has been organised to show support for women who face losing their jobs in sports, promotion and hospitality industries. There will be a march through the city centre to the shopping centre at 11am where an estimated 1,000 women are expected to turn up.

The ‘Grid Girls and Promotion Girls March Through Birmingham’ Facebook page has been inundated with support. The description of the event is: ‘We are marching In protest of the recent news from F1 banning of Grid/Promo girls. The extremists are ruining a perfectly harmless industry and we must make a stand.’ Miss Reid added: ‘I have always classed myself as a feminist and think if this is about equality then lets get some male models involved then so it is not all about women titillating the opposite sex, that would create more jobs, not take away jobs.’ The current controversy started with revelations about a men-only Presidents Club dinner which forced hostesses to dress a certain way and included claims of harassment. Miss Reid was a hostess at the infamous Presidents Club charity dinners for eight years in a row.

She said: ‘I have never seen money like it in my life, the raffle tickets alone would pay off a normal person’s mortgage. It was £100 for five hours work and we could drink if we wanted to, I had some great nights there. And I certainly was not abused or harassed during my time there. ‘What no-one seems to understand is that these events need pretty women to coax the money out these rich men.’ The 39-year-old from Birmingham added: ‘It is amazing what a smile can do from an attractive woman, the money raised for charity was mindblowing and we were proud to be a part of that.’ Miss Reid has complained several times to employers about inappropriate costumes and urged women not to wear anything they feel uncomfortable in. She said: ‘Women have so much grief, from so many different areas, personally and professionally, we should be sticking together as women, not pushing each other on to the dole queue.’

Sporting events are for entertainment for a largely male audience. Cheerleaders and other models augment that experience because as visually oriented creatures, men love watching women. The women love the attention and get paid to do the job. Everyone wins. But the prudes like yourself, want to shut it all down.
