Which means NOTHING and everything,...open to interpretation so wide you could drive a truck load of religious indoctrination books through.

ITS NOT A LAW,...!!!

I would like to hear from the legal beagles here, opinions as to if the property owner hired some legal muscle for this travistry,...or even take the "conviction" back into a real court,...with a real judge in the Canadian justice system,...what would the outcome(s) be,...???

FAST
you ask for the opinion of the legal beagles but prior posts suggest you already made your legal opinions. glad you are seeking out more informatiin.

the key is that this is their private home
You know with absolute certainty that A religious law could NEVER be applied,...unless it was a persons private home,...???

A real judge would quote the Canadian justice system law,...not religious law,...big difference,....

To state that some ones religious law applies to everybody else on the planet,...is utterly ridiculous.

Does this mean that a hotels staff must remove their shoes when entering a hotel room of some religious person,...to change the sheets,...is breaking the law,...???

FAST
You have no clue what you are talking about. THE OHRC IS the law.

A racist landlord got fined big bucks for breaking the law.

Deal with it.

So the OHRC bases it law on religious law,...good to know.

I guess we should be careful the next time someone calls a religious person,...an atheist,...probably get fined $12,000.

And to prove you are completely out of touch with this case,...the pretend judge did NOT mention race once,...so much for your clueless.

A religious law was not applied.
You should really go back to school and learn how to read English,...

The pretend judge quoted a religious book of laws four times.

You should try reading the entire ruling.

The judgment was for violating the rights of the residents of the property. As they are the legal residents, they have the right to expect reasonable accommodations to their religion. If they physically tried to bar a firefighter from entering their burning home because of their boots I would agree it is an unreasonable request but that isn't what happened here.

We can discuss all day how 12 grand is a huge number but the basic facts are there.

he made one joke on facebook? the fact that the tenants went as far to look on his facebook to find a joke shows how hard they are trying to make this a strong case of racism when it is tenuous at best. the fact that you see it as a "pattern" shows how hard you're trying to construe this as some horrific case of racism.
.
This was the all damning facebook joke that he shared. Jokes are not allowed in Canada anymore when it insults the prophet otherwise you are considered 'racist'. M-103 anybody? Jesus H Christ LOL

"A devout Arab Muslim entered a black cab in London. He curtly asked the cabbie to turn off the radio because as decreed by his religious teaching, he must not listen to music because “in the time of the Prophet there was no music, especially Western music which is the music of the infidel.”The cab driver politely switched off the radio, stopped the cab and opened the door. The Arab Muslim asked him, “What are you doing?”
The cabbie answered, “In the time of the Prophet there were no taxis, so get out and wait for a camel!”

YEah the joke is not that bad. But when combine with his actions of refusing to take off his shoes and calling ahead. And combined with his "welcome to Ontario" text together it paints a different picture.

But the human rights code also applies to a list of other reasons (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, age, disability etc). So what we are talking about is human rights.

The landlord explained what the 'welcome to ontario' comment meant. They were arguing over what the landlord's legal obligation was of informing them of entry of notice law. They just moved from Montreal where they're rules are different. That's what he meant. Then they went even further, called the police and the police also told them what the Ontario laws were.
According to the respondent, the police also informed the applicants that, contrary to their understanding of the law, the respondent had a right to show the apartment even if they were home at the time.
Nothing racist about that either imo.

Alas, it is what it is. It's done with now. Wonder if he's going to appeal, I would.

Didn't say that.

My point was that the important factor in this case is that it was the person's private home. Not a hotel room.

Oh yes, I forgot..... you DON'T make personal posts. Yet you ask people go "go back to school"

Let it go.

And you need to relax. I was being honest. I am glad you were seeking opinions/doing research.

You're probably right. The problem though is that sometimes a comment can have a double meaning. Did he intend it? Difficult to prove.

The joke and the blatant disregard for requests is still pretty strong.
