It could have been a different outcome, Showalter did not use Britton who is virtually unhittable. Even though it wasn't a save situation, teams have used their closer to shut down opposition until they can score runs to take lead, especailly in a must win game.

Any ways, on to Texas!

Gibby was downright Napoleonic calling the game. He gave Stroman his chance, his bullpen moves worked to the O's disadvantage and Liriano was a bull. Fangu naysayers, filthy old sumkas.

I never pick on the coach/manager, it's thankless work. When there's ire to be vented, it's for the GM and the executives. With JD playing with a hip flexor, it will be up to JB and EE to lead the offense. If they produce like Supercazzonis that's going to put huge pressure on Shapeyero to get at least one of them signed.

Haven't gone to bed yet, I'm going to feel like AK when I wake up.

Gibby proves once again that he is a baseball genius. Against all the odds, he starts Stroman and holds Liriano back to pitch through the extras. Brilliant!
Well, well, well I'm glad to see everyones on the Gibby bandwagon, have I missed something...A GENIUS? :puke: Lets not break our arms patting Gibby on his back, yes good call, even tho it was a 50-50 shot.
Wonder how many of you would be heaping praise if it back fired? Bottom line I don't like Gibby as a manager, made to many mistakes in my book as the manager of the Jays. To laded back for the offense we have, the Jays should be more aggressive at the plate for the bats we have. Not until recently have you seen Gibby call a contact play, a hit and run or a bunt. Yes his decision to start Stro was a good call but lets give credit were credit is due, Thank you Buck Showalter for not using your ace reliever, Zach Britton, 47 saves out of 47 chances. :clap2:

As it turns out, I think the key to last night's win was having Liriano available for a few innings rather than having to scramble around the bullpen.

Now with Dickey out of the picture, the BJ's have 5 reliable starters currently pitching to their own level of competence. They should be able to get a lot of quality innings from them. It may hardly matter who starts; let them go as long as they are pitching well but not more than 5 innings; then one of the others comes in for as many innings as they are effective before the bullpen comes into play.

In the post season, pitching wins games. If for no other reason, the BJ's could go all the way.

Osuna says he will be ready by Friday. I suspect Sunday if at all. Rarely see these proud athletes pulling themselves from important games if this was not serious.

On the bright side we have a lot of top quality starters so Stroman and Liriano can be the R & L bullpen guys. Not ideal but Gibby has options.

Osuna did not take himself out, He either said something to EE or EE noticed something and notified the bench. Osuna came out reluctantly. Time will tell how serious it is or isn't. Don't believe it was serious as he celebrated the win on the field and in the club house. Hope I am right.

Not what was told on TSN, Osuna told EE, EE signal the bench and according to Steve Philips, Osuna told Gibby that he felt something in his shoulder and that his arm felt tired. Ya Osuna came out reluctantly, but then again, what player won't in a game of this magnitude. In fact Osuna did pull himself.

The whole idea is to get the started out of the game then get to the bullpen. It was great to see Liriano come out because he can log a lot of innings if the game went longer, it's like a starter starting the game in the 6th or 7th inning...advantage us. Great to see Grilli pitch good as well as Biagini. IMHO we need those two to to step it up a and pitch like they can.

Just read the sportsnet report and it is very similar to what you reported from TSN. I was going on what I saw and what was said last night. Various stories out there on his return one says Thur. and another says Fri. At least it doesn't sound serious.

Ya your right, EE will be 34 in January while JB will be 36 on Oct 19. How could you justify paying a player, approaching 39 or 40 , 30 mill a year, especially if EE is a DH. It will be harder to sign JB if he has a great post season. Question, if you could only sign one, who would you sign, EE or JB? Sorry, one more question. Would you give the player that you choose to sign, EE or JB, a front end load contract so it will be easier to trade that player once there productivity demises?

If Osuna can't go could we see Liriano come out of the pen again? IMHO I think so.

One thing is for sure, if Jays only want to sign EE and JB for 1 or 2 years with additional years as options. And then Boston or Yankees come along and do offer them crazy 5-year long term contracts, its usually the money that wins out

if Osuna can't go, the stupidity with the Yanks really starts to hurt. Liriano seems to get better every time out so yes he comes out of the pen again. If possible, I think you bring him in with no one on as they did last night.

I can' see that happening. Both of them gave the Jays a home team discount when they signed there last contracts, forgoing free agency, so I can't see either of them signing 1 or 2 or 3 year deals. It appears that JB has a new saying, " SHOW ME THE MONEY ". Lets face it, this contract will be the last one either one of them sign before they retire so I think they will go for the money.

Don't understand the Yanks thing. If Liriano comes into the game, 6 or 7th inning, then you basically have another starter getting you to the 9th inning, or, if the starter starts to falter in the early innings you have another starter coming in to eat innings.

I hope they figure out a way to sign both. If not EE is the younger and his numbers this year say he deserves the big bucks with a 4 or 5 year term. Bautista picked a bad year to get hurt, IMO he still is valuable and using him as a part time DH as well as a position player could extend his career. I can see him getting big money for 3 years with team options beyond that.
