After posting some of my work over on the "What do you do when you're bored at night?" thread, I have received various emails requesting more images. So, I decided to start a photography thread for the photogs of Terb, from amateur to pro. Display your work, ask questions, give advice.

I am a semi-professional photographer from Toronto, I say semi-professional as it is not what I do full time. I shoot just about everything from engagements/weddings, portraits, boudoir, fine art landscapes and wildlife to abandoned buildings.

On that note, here's some to get the thread started.

Cheers,
Zen

Some very nice photos using long exposures. Takes practice and patience. Do you use any ND filters? Most guys on this board are not avid photographers, I find at least. For more in depth discussion and critiques I recommend http://www.fredmiranda.com/ .

Thanks Glam. For my daytime long exposure work, I use a 10 stop ND filter. I made this thread for everyone, not just the avid photogs, but for those who just want to post shots and learn a bit or help others learn. Another great site as well for that is http://photography-on-the.net

I'd definitely be interested in this thread. Not sure I'd post too many pics for privacy reasons, but if it was also about tips and tricks and questions and answers I think it would be a great thread!

Glamphotographer ... Is that the backside of any lady that might advertise on terb?!

Great work. My favorite is second last picture. Long exposure can make a simple picture look a lot more interesting. I haven't practiced shooting outdoors in a long time. Using long exposure doesn't work when it comes to shooting models. I need to get outside with my camera more often.

I love the shots Zen and the thread as I am am into photography myself.

Can I ask that you describe your shots, how they were framed and shot. That would be nice to know so that I can work on my technique.

I dabble a bit in photography. My two major pet peeves are:

1) Uneven lighting on the subject.
2) Shadows.

I noticed Richardson's recent photos of Miley Cyrus also show the same problems.

Nice pics Zen. Looks like Algonquin Park's Ragged Falls.

Great idea for a thread. I'm always impressed with good photography and there are quite a few very talented photographers out there.

I'm am/was a semi-pro as well and been doing photography for close to 35yrs. I've shot everything from product, glamour/fashion, landscapes, events, sports etc. Had several pics published in mags and brochures for one of the top sports equipment companies etc. Heck, I was even listed as one of Canada's up and coming photographers a few years ago. That said, while I still think my work is good, I think it could always be better compared to what some of the folks are posting these days. There's still a bit in photography that I'm not very good at like painting with light and super long exposures.

Alot of times it's done on purpose. Sometimes it looks better with shadows.

If you look at a second picture where Nicole is on the island in the kitchen most of her body are covered in a shadow except her chest and hair. I think I created a cool effect to basically show you where I want you to look. ( Her boobs☺).

Glad to see there's some interest in the thread! Thanks Baiter, it is Ragged Falls up in Algonquin Park, one of the nicer falls in that area imo.

Here's a couple of more recent shots, first one from a now decommissioned thermal generating plant.

and the second from a now closed auto parts manufacturing plant.

If you want even flat lighting without shadows use a ring flash or a number of soft boxes or octoboxes. However, that kind of lighting is often used in fashion magazines and playboy often uses soft flat even light. Photos with shadows are more creative, interesting and artsy. All depends of the look you are going for and the style you want to establish.

Here are some shots one using shadows (painting with light) with just one soft box and the second shot (composite) just flat even light using 2 large soft boxes and a ring flash on the camera.

Do you have any shots of the old brick works? This old abandoned brick factory was a great place to get amazing shots until they restored it into an attraction. I can't find my old brickwork shots, have go through my backup DVDs.

I use umbrellas with white light. If you set them up right they can also produce even light just like you see in the second picture. The first picture would look very boring without the shadows in my opinion.
